Summary:

We started off with the idea of making a game where shell-less turtles would compete for holding the shell (so they would "start with nothing" and compete for the shell) in a king of the hill-esque game. Our main concern was the AI, which we had no experience about. After less than 24 hours we realized that concept would not see the light of day in less than 72 hours, so we took what we had been doing (mapping and character creation) and went through with a soccer game where they use their shells as their main weapon.

We believe it ended being a very fun local VS experience (that you can play over the internet with applications like parsec). You can use the shell to knock your opponent, or you can shoot a very high speed coconut to knock him over! We had great fun with our friends!

What we did on the project:

-All code was from scratch aside from one shader.

-3D models, texturing, all done by us.

The only stuff we didn't do were the animations (Mixamo) and the music (even if we have a license to use the assets)

Controls:

Player1: W A S D and Left Shift or Space for using shell spin

Player2: Arrows and Right Control or NumPad 0 for using shell spin

Hey @webox! thanks for your comment! The initial take on the game was more of a king of the hill concept. However, we realized it wouldn't be fun enough with our lack of knowledge of AI programming. The initial idea would've been turtles without shells fighting to get inside a shell then stay with it as much time as possible.

So, as of now, the theme only gave us the mood of the game. We wish we could've been closer to the theme, for sure!

I wasn't really able to 'play' the game, since I am just one person. But the graphics, music and sounds were all very nice. Simple concept, and the controls seemed to function smoothly.

@almighty-games parsec is a very good program that allows you to stream the game to other people and play it over the net with minimum delay (even cuphead can be played!)

Really cute game. I wish I had a second player to play with. I loved the animations, especially the dancing and getting hit with the ball.

Really cool game, sadly i'm alone to play it... Had fun messing around with the ball anyway ! Great job ! Maybe i don't get it but i don't really see the theme in the game ... And the no shell turtle would have been great too !

Superb modeling, texturing and animating here. Seriously great job. I'm unfortunately unable to test with another person, but my left hand crushed my right hand. My one input would be to make the rounds a little shorter. Maybe 60 or 90 seconds. Great job!

@jharler we can't take credit for animation because mixamo gave us the animations (although we did take a long time selecting the ones that'd fit the most and converting some to stay in place). Thanks for the kind comments!

Haha what a cute little game. really awesome artstyle. I can offer you to write a basic AI for your game if you want to, so people can play single player. :)

Funny idea, I like the style and turtles. Unfortunately, I can play with my right hand, because Num0 doesn't work with other nums and the right shift too far from other keys. But I think the problem mostly in my keyboard :) Will try to play with friend.

@nikchernyakov hey there! if you download the second binary (executable), it allows to change controls so you'd be able to put the keys you want and even setup controllers.

@christopher-wong glad to see you could play with someone :D!

@ausstein we'll tackle that in the near future, we just couldn't manage based on the 72h we had plus the fact we had a somewhat tight schedule

Im happy to see an arcade-style sports game, as those are the best sports games. If I had a player 2 I'm confident this would be a blast of a little romp.

I see what your original intent with the theme WAS, but the final product doesn't really reflect the theme much at all except for the fact that your score starts at nothing, which is a bit of a stretch.

also, the graphics were pretty good and stylized for the short time frame given.

Well, cool game, the speed probably don't match with the game, and some physics were bugging, like the ball, but was fun play with a friend but to risky for the rest make a two player games.

Graphically impressive for a game jam submission. The game feels slow though, but ... well ... it's turtles playing soccer so, it makes sens :sweat_smile:
