Description: Oh my, a shooter with blocks! is a shooter where the ships are constructed from basic building blocks. Each block has its own function, they come in four flavors: -CORE (circle icon) only one per ship. if the block is destroyed the whole ship is destroyed. -SHOOTER (triangle icon) shoots projectiles. -ENGINE (square icon) increase the speed of the ship. -NORMAL gives no abilities beside protecting other blocks.
The enemies are procedurally generated and evolve using a genetic algorithm. The goal is to beat has much generation as possible. After beating a generation the player is rewarded a new block to upgrade his ship.
Controls: WASD to move aim with mouse to shoot
Known bugs: -If could happen that an enemy pop out of the game zone. In such case the level can't be completed. No way out of this except reloading the game and starting over. Sorry. -Game load for a long time and nothing appears (reported by eyehawk). Most likely due to a Java version problem. -Sometime ship tries to constantly go in one direction (reported by hgcummings).
Cool shooter. Building your own shooter was fun. Some kind of an explanation for what the next block will do would've been a nice addon, I still don't know what that square piece does. :)
Solid arena shooter, need some variation in the block properties. As now, all you will ever need is shooter blocks, as they will act as shield and guns. It would be more interesting if for example the normal block could take more hits. Then you have the defense/offense ratio to think about.
I like the retro graphics. Reminded me of the old Micro Machines games a bite. The upgrade & damage model is good too (actually losing bits of your ship when you're hit). I did seem to encounter a bug where my ship started constantly trying to move right.

Brassawiking: Originally I planned on making the block upgradable. My idea was that normal block level 2 can take two hits, level 3 three, etc.. But again not enough time to implement..
I really like the concept of this game! I think a bit more work could really make it shine.
Mainly what I didn't like was that the camera was really zoomed in, so that you could see only so many blocks at a time. If you zoomed out a bit you could add a lot more enemies and give the player a lot more freedom.
