PROTEAN is an evolutionary shooter. You have two goals:
1. Don't die 2. Get a high score
Use WASD to move around. You'll automatically shoot toward the mouse cursor, so point it at enemies.
Enemies will try to shoot you! If you lose all your health, the game is over. (Enemy bullets hurt you, but bumping into enemies does not.)
Enemies will occasionally mate with one another, producing offspring that inherit some combination of their parents' traits and a few random mutations. Each generation can be faster, stronger, and more specialized.
As enemies evolve, the GENERATION counter in the top-right will increase. The higher the generation, the more quickly you can score... but the more dangerous the enemies become.
Interesting... Although world wrapping would have made it far more interesting to play.
