Your collection of hell-beasts might be contaminated with the Omnicide Genotype. The disease makes them spit waves of death. Some of the beasts carry the disease without suffering from it, but they can pass them on to their children. Find all of the carriers and destroy them while saving the others.

Mouse click controls the crosshairs. Cull who you choose.

Made with the Love 2D engine and public library hump.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Windows x86 version available (http://www.sendspace.com/file/qvo90t)
Unzip. Don't alter the folder contents. Just run Game.exe.

For the most RELIABLE results, install your choice of the Love 2D Engine version 0.71 or 0.72 from https://love2d.org/ and download the game in .love form (http://www.sendspace.com/file/pifn7r). No doubt you will find other love 2D games for this jam too, so you've saved some time in the long run, maybe.

I just realized that I developed the game in Love version 0.7___ and forgot to upgrade to 0.8. This may explain all of my issues :/. Please use version 0.7___ of the engine, please.

Windows 64 bit: I can't test this, but try downloading http://www.sendspace.com/file/ow1jnx and running TheOmnicideGenotype-64.exe. It is a crapshoot.

Linux and Mac: download the love engine as specified above

For those wanting to know the theme connection: Evolution in a strict biological sense is the change of allele frequencies in a population.

Interesting concept. It's fun trying to figure out which ones are carriers. However, the waiting game can get a little boring and it's sometimes hard to tell which one it spawned from. Overall, great concept, I just wish there was more done with it.

I try not to read any of the descriptions before I play the game, but I accidentally read your first sentence and it was incredible. That said, I'm pretty sure clicking on the OS/X link gave me an .exe file!

Nice creatures. Hard to spot the bad ones.

The OS/X link is the .love file, since I can't compile it directly for Mac. Love2d.org has the program to run love files and its available for pretty much all the platforms.

It is a puzzle game where you are supposed to figure out which ones are the bad ones. I guess that wasn't clear enough.

Nice work on the concept, it's like a guessing game, but much more oriented. It's the type of concept I would like to work in one of my games.

Once I caught on to the core mechanic, this got deceptively interesting. Most things that at first seem like design flaws (like the hellbeasts greying out after a while) actually work out in the game's favor (punishing the player for waiting too long). Great job, man!

This is a nice concept, but trying to do what is basically a visual DNA test isn't much fun.

I'd love it if it were more obvious who the parents were, but otherwise lots of fun.
