Controls: Click the buttons to give the dog food, water, a treat or to take him outside.
This is my first LD. I designed this around my dog, who slept by my feet over the past few days. I recorded a time lapse of my progress from the beginning until now.
As you play the game, based on your actions, he'll either become a good dog or a bad dog. Bad dogs bark at cats and dig holes. Good dogs don't go potty in the house.

You're now the owner of one yellow puppy.
Over time, he'll grow into a adult yellow dog, then an
old yellow dog. Yellow dogs grow up in about 7 minutes.
It's your job to ensure that he grows up happy.
Feed him when he's hungry. Give him treats when
he's done good. He'll learn from your actions.
And for goodness' sake, don't let him poop on the floor.
Fun! The poop animation was hilarious! My remarks would be to only allow one food/water/treat on screen at a time. Also, there was a small glitch where he drank phantom water.
Overall fun game, pretty good connection to theme; nice animations.
Just like a real pet I felt more like a slave to him than an owner but any game with pooping as a mechanic wins my vote. Nice little sprite too.

So cool. Accidentally hit "Go Outside" twice because there was no visual indicator that she was headed outside. Totally cool "I'm pooping" flyout. Nice work.
I got stuck in a poo-loop at one point where he kept pooing dozens of times in a row without coming back onto the screen inbetween, but apart from that this game was pretty good :) reminds me of a tamagochi.
Very nice game, sadly it gets really repetitive after some minutes (but I played it to the end). My score was 91. Like the visual style and the humor (going outside xD). More gameplay elements and this game would be so much greater. Good job :)
This could've done with slightly better pacing. Either make it all move faster so that I have to be super active or make it move slower so that I can do other things while I watch the dog grow. I really like all the mechanics though, it felt like the old digimon toys they used to make where you had to raise you're own little monster thing. Good stuff.
Everyone seems to share my enthusiasm, it was really fun to take care of the puppy, then the dog, and then the old dog. I really freaked out when after giving my dog food and looking away for a second I came back thinking it was dead in a pool of blood, but it was just sleeping on top of the food bowl! xD
Thanks for all the nice words, everyone. Given more time, I likely would have changed the sound effects. I think i was working in a bit of a vacuum over the weekend and the speakers I was using were pretty weak.
@Starmen: I think the pacing (140 seconds per stage) is ok, but if i had more time, i would have put in more stuff to do. Some things got scrapped as I was running out of time.
@Cake&Code: I deliberately built it so the dog can't die. That would be too depressing.
Good job :) I missed some difficulty or dare on the gameplay beyond feeding when hungry and going outside when pooping but... Felt good to play. Cute pixel yellow puppy :)
Just had to play this being a yellow (and black) dog owner. Laughed at the poop animation. Enjoyed playing the game. High on the 'cute' factor. FYI: The dog did eat a fantom bowl of food. Good job!
Lol funny little tamagochi type game! Loved the retro graphics. Only improvement would be to introduce more gameplay elements - after stage 3 it became a bit easy and repetitive.
Verry cute game, I love the feel of this game and I think it helps that I am a fan of these Tamagatchi type games. I do think if you were to take this game further, to add in some down time events like games or something because I found myself waiting for the bars to lower before I made an action.

Cute game, it's a bit repetitive, but you did pretty good job. I was expecting the dog to die of old age or something though. Everything seemed to otherwise work just fine, but are all the bowls and stuffs supposed to stay lying on the ground after they have been eaten or drank?

Empty bowls and dishes are supposed to appear, though if you put down one, and he's already full or not thirsty, he'll walk away. The next time he's thirsty or hungry, he should go to one of those 1/2 full bowls.
The phantom bowl/food problem is a bug. It's a simple bug to fix and it only came up in the last 10 minutes when I was trying to fix a different bug. I'll leave it in there for now, but after the compo, i'll fix it.
Hey, very well done game. Good pixel graphics. I'm glad the dog never died on me :) The pooping-12-times-in-a-row glitch happened to me too - you keep a queue of onlick events or something.
I didn't enjoy 'playing' this very much but I think it would be a great game that you could set and forget. check on your dog once a day. That sort of thing.

Lovely :) Graphics were simple yet effective, mood was great. Audio was almost on the point of annoying whilst eating/drinking but wasn't too bad. Poop animation was hilarious :) I felt the gameplay could have used a little more depth, maybe having to clean up the empty dog bowls in-between tasks and perhaps some options to pet/scold when he has done good/bad things. This game reminded me of my dog (except that my dog has been rather naughty lately unlike my dog in the game :P) and it made me smile. Good work :)
Simple and repetitive but still a lot of fun. As others have said the poop animation is hilarious. I think that it would be nice if every time the dog progresse the game changes a little more - maybe you get toys or a button to take him to the park.

Also, is he supposed to eat and drink backwards? It only happened when he was fully grown. Either way it was fun.
sadly it's not really evolution though, but simply "growing up" but the game is solid
