What is this even?

Welp, I tried my best everyone. I really did. I worked as best I could alone on this project and got some things done, but I sadly didn't get it all done. And to be honest I'm totally fine with it because I learned a lot and kinda have something to show for it. This was not only my first Ludum Dare, but also my first game ever made. Sure I've messed around with some small projects, but never a full game. Sadly this isn't the full game I had in mind, but its more than I've done before. Regardless, this was a learning experience and I had fun, and soon I hope to get into Unity since it looks really fun to use. My only downfall is that I'm no coding wiz, in fact, I hate it since I don't fully understand it yet, but if I have support from the development community, then I'd love to get into it.

Now, to shift focus on my "game."

Controls are:

WASD - Movement
Mouse & Left Click - Shoot and Aim
R - Restart Game

The level here is really simple so I don't need to explain it.

Now for what I had in mind since I clearly failed to execute it, was this. Since the theme was minimalism, I nearly instantly had the thought of making the art style that way, but decided to go deeper, and think about the meaning of minimalism. I came up with the idea that minimalism is breaking something down into its most basic form. So I thought of this laserbeam device, that had the ability to make something regress back into a former state, whether it was something big turned small, or something small turned big (Think like materials used to make an item.) So with this I wanted to make a platform shooter-like game with puzzles where you needed the beam to get past certain things, like degrading rope into weak string to make a ladder fall down.

After that I was planning on adding some more levels, add an upgrade to the beamgun to have the opposite effect so that you can revert any changes you made, or break something down into a certain way so that it can be used for a simple scenario.

Anyways, thank you for reading this, I enjoyed what I could make and hope to take what I learned on to my next project.

Sorry about only making for Windows by the way, I'm still a scrub to this.

Good for you! For a first game OK.
It really is short and simple, but I like the beam (don't know what it's for).
I can't blame you for being ambitious (my idea was also too ambitious, I couldn't make it in 48 hours either).

Good job on your first game entry. Unfortunately it's a bit too flat for its own good, but the gun was kind of fun to mess around with.

I know its your first try so I guess you deserve points for trying and "finishing" something. You could have added a few simple things to improve it and increase your rating a bit.

Some kind of enemy, even a static one that doesnt move to shoot with the gun.
A way to die would have been good and maybe some collectable coins or something.
GMS has some very easy to use in built score and lives features that you can impliment very easily.

I encourage you to use this entry and build on it to learn some more about GameMaker. Try the inbuilt tutorials and hit youtube for some good vids on how things are done.

Good Luck.

It's a great first game! Sure, there is no challenge, but you got a sweet wave laser effect to work!
