Has a really good look to it, and I really like the way the missiles track the asteroids and the exploding animations. There was some weird issues with the aiming cursor where if I ran far in one direction it was being left behind. I did a really bad job protecting the poor wildlife, all is lost indeed! Well done on your entry!
Wow, that was cool. The mouse controls were a little odd when moving. Then I discovered the zoom, and mostly just sat in one spot shooting, but it was still quite fun. Graphics and Audio really nice. Great job
That was great, loved everything on it! Found a bug: if you zoom out a bit, you can still click those links (that appear on menu) even if they are hidden while the game is running.
Thanks for the comments everyone! I can't believe I didn't disable the links when they are invisible! That's an easy one to fix though, and I think it falls within the "very tiny changes that I would have caught if I had more sleep" category. I'll try to fix it ASAP.
The mouse-tracking issue will have to remain unfortunately, as I don't have an immediate solution to that, and it would affect the gameplay anyway. I did notice it, but thought it was acceptably wonky. You are running around in circles a lot, it makes sense that your aim might be affected a bit.
Great little game, would be cool if there was perhaps a visual indicator on screen where asteroids are coming from, whether just lighting up or flashing the sides of the screen in relation.
Adding buildings, upgrades etc would add a whole new dimension to an already great existing framework.
Looks very good and quite nice overall. Just that you can pretty much just park yourself to one place and spam the missiles and it's very easy to protect one part of the forest.
Gameplay is too linear in my taste, and not much anyhing going on. Also i didnt get the point of zooming in and out. Why not just set the zoom fixed? Presentation is the only good part for me, but it has somne severe aliasing goign on
looks really neat! i enjoyed playing it. :) one thing to mention, it would be great if you allow WASD as well for the movement as it's easier to use with the mouse for most people.
Very interesting and smooth! The cursor being affected by the rotation takes a bit getting used to and I can't imagine this game going over well with people that get motino sickness but I'm really enjoying it ;) I also like the quirky soundtrack, fits the mood perfectly.
OMG. Big fan of how the whole thing behaves when you play it, the cam tracking. At first I thought the shakes were from my velocity traveling back to Earth (I jumped really far away) but I was saddened to know it was from the comets. :p
Incredible piece of art. Loved how extremely polished everything looked. Great sense of a deeper space though jetpack didnt have much use besides trying to leave the planet to go somewhere else??? Shooting is kind of a mess, i´ve used the strategy of mashing left click and missiles seem to seek meteors automatically. Music doesnt fit, needs like a techno or scifi, faster beats to get in the right mood.
Homing missiles are always great fun, really satisfying to use.
The controls were a little difficult to get my head around, it always felt like I was playing upside down and so the best way to play as other have said is to park yourself in one spot.
Would like to see a score counter or a health bar to indicate status, but i'm sure you just ran out of time to add that.
Quite enjoyed the missile sounds....! Weirdly hard to keep the moving things alive. I also agree the character sprite doesn't quite fit with the rest, and that the music, whilst nice, is maybe not quite right for the gameplay
Very nice game, I really enjoyed the visuals and the way the movement feels with the camera following loosely. The main characters graphic felt a bit out of place, as did the music, who was a little too happy, in my opinion, for a game called "All is lost", which is about extinction. :) One little suggestion: Add WASD as alternative control.
Love this game. I'm a sucker for games with radial worlds but this does everything so well. I really like the sound design and the graphics are pretty good. My only complaint is the camera movement - it would be less disorienting if the camera rotated faster to keep up with the player's orientation, or even if it was just fixed on the player's orientation. Anyway, it's an excellent entry and I'm putting it in my top 10. Great work!
I appreciate all the comments. Thanks again everyone. I'm taking all of the suggestions on board, and will hopefully release a post-comp version which will address a number of these issues.
I've been mocking up a radar system that will give you a better idea of where threats are coming from, and I'll introduce a couple of new control schemes, including gamepad support. Actually, my plans are to expand the game quite a bit, to make it more "gamey"... ie. Better feedback, a sense of progress, and I'm thinking about an entire solar system of planets... but we'll see how that goes.
@Erkberg, I see what you mean about the music. I actually created the track before I modified the game to be about protecting life (originally it was a bit silly, and you were actually cutting down the trees... in fact, you can still cut the trees down because I never removed the button... I don't think anyone has noticed this yet. :D) I'll see if I can come up with something a little moodier.
And yes, I'll eventually redo the player sprite. It was literally the first thing I did, and I used C2's built in sprite editor and never went back to it afterwards.
Oh no, the poor little fluffy creatures... they met their inevitable demise at the end of the universe. There were a lot of things I liked: the zoom, the homing missiles, the planet and wildlife revolving. I actually played a game zoomed right in so all I could see was the main character, just watching him blindly solider on as everything gets destroyed around him. Great work
The visuals are great! I don't really understand what the point of the game is though, and the zooming feature doesn't fit the theme IMO. But it was really fun, good job :)
Really nice. Really enjoyed the spinny effects on the planet, though i started to get a bit nauseous when I enjoyed them too much :) Overall, nice game and take on the theme. Thanks!
Brilliant. Really fun. My #1 recommendation would be to remove the auto-tracking on shots, because as it is I found that if I just spammed the fire button I never lost everyone.
Playing on a laptop with a trackpad was pretty much impossible, but after switching to my desktop, I found it to be a pretty fun little game. The audio and visual elements blended nicely together. I was hoping there would be more variety to the game... I ended up spamming missiles most of the time.
This game definitely has tons of potential to be expanded upon. A very nice LD entry.
Interesting idea, even though it reminded me of some of the games provided a long time ago during Scirra's first contest "Rotary games". Graphics are nice, game's goal is easy enough to understand, but I must agree that it soon turns into a matter of spamming the auto-aiming missiles and hoping for the best.
I accidentally found out about the zoom in/out once my game was over, and restarting ended up in some kind of loop that made it so that the game was considered lost right away and the end screen went on with still trees and characters to protect. (possibly the fact of starting the layout as zoomed out causes this issue)
A better signalisation of the coming rocks could possibly be more fun, as well as some resources management (not just spamming missiles).
The audio loop is really too short and ends up repetitive quite fast.
Overall nicely made game with a concept that works. Congratulations on making a game in 48 hours !
Really cool game! The spinning camera was making me a little sick, but when I realized I could fire through the planet and the missiles homed in I just sat in one place firing and it seemed to take care of most of the asteroids. Maybe if your missiles had their own gravity centered on the planet and you couldn't fire though it, with mechanics kind of like a round Missile Command, you could get some more varied gameplay.

@ainokaisa - True. I'll think of a way to discourage camping for a post compo update.
Thanks for the suggestions.
But lovely graphics (everything but the spaceship)
I liked zooming out with the mouse - put this on the instruction page so that more people know it is possible!
Hope I can use A/D to move.
Fun game!
