- I made this game using a simple engine I built using Java/LWJGL in the months leading up the Ludum Dare.
//////Information about Me////// I am currently in high school but I love programming so I thought this would be a fun test of skill. It was an exhausting 48 hours, and unfortunately I didn't get as much done as I wanted but I proud of what I accomplished.

Congrats on your entry! Nice little game. I like how the staples stick around for a while after shooting them.
There are some issues, naturally. Sometimes the flying enemies can get stuck in the outer walls, which causes you to get stuck in a room. Also the music gets tiring real quick. Still, a great effort!
While I have to agree that a stapler *is* unconventional, there's nothing about it's characteristics in the game mechanics, perhaps only that it takes quite a number of hits for the aliens to die. The music look is simple but, suprisingly!, not annoying, the different enemies I encountered so far are nice and varied (the UFO being quite interesting!). Health pickups would have been nice, also some kind of mini-map would have helped me (personally) because I think I just went around in circles not quite knowing where to go or what to do. Overall a nice little top-down shooter with the usual mechanics, but still fun for a while :)
The use of theme isn't really there but the concept of the game is fun. Theres just some really crippling bugs like enemies leaving the room and forcing me to have to restart the game. I wish the stapler had some sort of more unique mechanic to it to use the theme better.
