This is a cute little puzzle game. You play as a Kraken.

The boy Kraken is Maurice The Kraken, and he moves like a queen in chess.

The girl Kraken is Denise The Kraken, and she moves like a king in chess. To make up for the smaller movement, she can take two moves at a time.

To start a game, choose the Kraken you want to play as. You must move around the level destroying boats and avoiding being tagged. Once your opponent tags you, then you are 'it' and you must now play as your sibling.

This was done in Haxe and OpenFL, The Krakens were hand-drawn (except for the hats) and animated with Spine. TexturePacker was used for the spritesheets. I have a pretty extensive library of game utility classes, but I wanted to do this as more of a "ground up" project, so I only used two of them. One is some code to load Sparrow spritesheets, and the other is a little library that makes the OpenFL listeners a little more coherent for a C-addled brain like mine. Check out the source if you want to see it.

I also have HTML5, Windows, Mac, and Linux exports. Unfortunately, I use a lot of bitmap filters for the text and shadows, and OpenFL doesn't yet support those filters on all platforms, so I'm just releasing the Flash version right now. It doesn't run on everything, but it looks the best :)

Thanks to my G+ peeps for the encouragement, and thanks to Joseph Burchett for the "DENISE THE KRAKEN" sound effects. Listen to his radio-friendly voice on the Game Developers Radio weekly podcast.

EDIT: Added a Windows version. It's still the Flash version wrapped in Adobe AIR (for now). And don't worry about having to install AIR, as the runtime is all bundled in.

EDIT 2: Added the Mac version.
