Shadow of the Monster is a tribute to Shadow of the Beast. You have been turned into a monster by the evil wizard and your goal is to reach the wizard through the portals scattered across this strange world and devour his army of monsters.

WASD, or arrows to move (down doesn't do anything)

SPACE (or up) to jump

The game has 6 levels. The first 4 are for learning the mechanics, the 5th and the 6th are a bit more difficult.

It is my first attempt to make a game for Ludum Dare and one of my first attempts to make a game. I have used Unreal Engine 4 with Blueprints, GIMP, Audacity, BFXR, Korg IS40 keyboards and a Samsung Galaxy S2 to take pictures. I'm quite happy that I managed to finish the game and the result is better than I expected.

Aren't the monsters you are eating also innocent people that were turned into monsters? Wouldn't that make you just as evil as the wizard for killing them? :P

Btw. It's quite easy to jump out of the left side of the world in level 3, which causes you to fall endlessly.

Ehm... I guess you're right, but then again it's not that you have to be the good guy. :-)

Thanks for the hint. I noticed that just after I submitted. Also I forgot to build the lighting. :-)

Nice usage of lightning and fun level design.

Pretty cool game, I like the aesthetics. Solid game mechanics. Nice entry.

Pretty neat, reminds me of Agario.

I got an error in every level about the lighting being "built", but I see you already know that.

Really hard to finish ! But really cool entry

Thanks. I wish I had more levels. I have left the level making for the last few hours, but then I realized I had a bug with the eating logic. That leaves me with 4 "tutorial" levels and only 2 challenging ones.

I think the mood was spot on for this. Unreal brings a lot to the table with lighting and overall feel. I think the jumping could have been tighter - but maybe I just home in on those darn spikes!

Beautiful backdrop and interesting mechanics! The particle and lighting effects look really good. I lol'd at the "this monster is red" text... haha good way to fix a potential issue!

The graphics are good, and the gameplay has a solid foundation.
One issue is that the gameplay actually got annoying to the point where I quit, I think it was level 6. There was this one spot, and I had no idea how to get past it.
Also, I would recommend you do something with the lights/particles on the creatures to make the colors more clear. If you have to have text saying what color an enemy is, you've done something wrong =\
All in all, though, it's a good game. Well done!
