We’re near the end of this Ludum Dare!! I’m so exited!

My game is already available, so, pleeeeease go check it out and please leave me a comment so i can find and play your game too!!

This LD was particulary special, i don’t know exactly why.. but i really enjoyed it!

I hope you like my game! I’m going to post some little post-mortems about this project, and sharing a couple of techniques that an experienced programmer would not see as important, but i think that beginners may find this useful.

First of all, procedural level generation.

Like i said in later posts, i think this is the easiest way to achieve procedural level generation. I know is not the best way, but i think is a good thing to know how to do for jams (and games in general).

What i did was very simple: i made a couple of “blocks” with starting points (red) and ending points (blue), like this one…

I made a coupe of “starting blocks” and “ending blocks” that are the same, but those are going to be used at the beggining and the ending of each level.

The code for the creator is pretty simple…

I just create an array of “created blocks”, and i keep that in mind so i can use the latests to get his “ending position”, where i’m going to create the next block. And i continue doing that, until i get to the last index of the level, where i build an “ending block”.

Each block has his own script. This script hides the reference points that i were showing before (the red and blue squares) and saves the “next block position” so i can know where i have to build the next block.

So yes.. that’s it i think. I very very simple, right? I hope that somebody finds this useful!
