(NOTE: We worked really hard to make all of our ideas a reality, but when it came down to the wire - this being our first game jam - we weren't able to include everything. However, the game has basic shapeshifting - only into trashcans - and capturing functionality and should still be fun to play! We plan to finish this completely sometime after the jam is done so check back if you like it!)
APESHIFT
ApeShift is an online, competitive, multiplayer game made by 5 college students and 2 graduates, in which you play as either an escaped lab monkey with the power to shapeshift or a disgruntled scientist roaming the city and sewers to find her elusive subject.
HOW TO PLAY
Bonzo the Ape:
After months of advanced testing for the scientist’s new shapeshifting technology, you’ve gotten sick of living life in a cage and make a break for the nearby city. To complete your escape you must hide from the scientist by RIGHT-CLICKING to move and LEFT-CLICKING to shapeshift into objects and NPCs in the background, while collecting the briefcases holding the files on your experimentation that are scattered around the city and sewers. To collect a briefcase you must stand over it for 5 continuous seconds, so you must be completely in the clear to do so. Be cognizant of the obstacles the scientist has left in your path: sensors which make the screen flash red when triggered and alert the scientist of your location and trip wires which slow you down for 10 seconds. Once you have gathered all your documents, make a run for the subway station entrance and click to complete your escape!
Penny the Scientist:
Your test monkey has run away just as you are close to completing your revolutionary shapeshift technology. Unfortunately, this makes him very hard to find. RIGHT CLICK to move around the city, while pressing the spacebar to place sensors (of which you have 3 total), so that you receive an target location arrow when Bonzo steps on them, and pressing the shift key to place a trip wire (of which you have 1 total) to slow Bonzo down for 10 seconds. When a sensor or wire is triggered, it is no longer active, and returns to your inventory. When you think you have located Bonzo (in monkey or object form) you may swing your net to capture him by LEFT-CLICKING on either him or the object you suspect he has shapeshifted into. You must capture him to win, but if you make a mistake you must wait 15 seconds to use your net again!
