Solo entry postmortem
This time I was solo in the jam, and here what it was like.
This theme brough a lot of ideas and concepts, all first day was wasted in trying them all. Some mechanics just didn’t work, and some was beyound I could do alone, so after a few quick prototypes, I ended up with something that called Light Shifter Temple. That’s pretty much everything what was made in the first day, not very productive if you ask me =)
Second day was mostly about discovering what choosen mechanic could do. Didn’t have much time for planning, so mostly everything was programmed without further research. All basic things where done in this day (like scene switching, colliders adjustment etc). What was was left for the third day was sound/music, art and levels.
I highly recommend to take a good sleep for the first two nights, so in the last day you could be fresh and work as long as you needed to.
The third day was the toughest for me. I know that it takes a lot of time to create handdrawn animation, so decision was made to cut them in a half. For example normaly you take full cicle of walking, I’ve did the walking animation only for one leg, shifted the head a little bit and ended up with zombie-like walking. Managed to save some time with this trick.
Levels and music where made in the last four hours, I’ve already known what they should be played like, so that wasn’t a big deal. Music where made in Cubase Lite + a few VST’s.
Finnaly it tooked around an hour for propper submission, I’m really bad at this things. The most pain was with resoltion stuff, I’ve had to rebuild the project a time or two to fit in the frame and don’t mess up the pixels. Went to sleep at 4.00 am. Tired but happy that at least I could introduce my concept for you fellows.
Did have a lot of fun, and will definetley participate next time, and really hoping you will do as well!)
