Instructions:
Collect Shards by killing enemies. Locate the blue pedestal when your shard counter is yellow, this means you can shapeshift.
When the floor is black, you can walk through white walls. When the floor is white, you can walk through (previously) black walls. You can never walk through gray walls.
The walls will change when you shapeshift so it is best take note of the level before doing so.
This was my first Ludum Dare and I'm glad to have finished on time :)
Bug fixes made: - Music did not reset on death to the correct music depending on your character (fixed in 1 line of code by setting the global music variable). - Win menu did not display particles correctly (fixed in 2 lines of code by setting camera's X and Y to (0, 0)). - After going to level 2 and pressing Play Again, the shard cost to shapeshift is the same as the second level (which is impossible to get in the first level) (fixed in 2 lines of code by setting the shard cost of each of the 2 shapeshift levels).
Pretty good for your first time. I really like the use of theme here as well as the bold use of color. There were some control issues when pressing more than three buttons at a time, and getting sent back the the first level when you die is a bummer, but I still had fun with it. Good job!
@SuperPokeunicorn If the control issues occurred while using the "Monkey" character, that was intentional. The monkey has fast bullets, so I don't allow him to shoot in any direction opposite the way he is facing. That was intentional to keep the game balanced :P
I'm a sucker for twinstick shooters, but the square guy was just a tad slow for my taste. The fact that each character was a little different was a fun discovery, all in all a lot of fun.
Played the non-easy version. Great game, I think the game would do well with a checkpoint system. I made it to the second level and died, and I couldn't mutate in the first level after. Not sure if that may be a bug
