Leonardo's Painting Machine

Leonardo's Painting Machine

This game is from the old Ludum Dare platform. You can try viewing the original page on Web Archive
(may not load correctly).
Leonardo's Painting Machine is one of Leonardo da Vinci's lesser known inventions. In fact, before this game was released, nobody had ever heard about it!

You program the machine using punch cards, in order to reproduce a particular painting. The holes in the punch cards control brush motion, colour, numerical registers and control flow. These are introduced gradually, so don't feel disappointed if the first few levels seem simple ;)

This game draws inspiration from Zachtronics games (TIS-100, SpaceChem, Infinifactory) and esoteric programming languages. Be warned: if this sounds like your kind of game, you may not go to bed on time tonight.

You can save and share your creations by clicking the Link button, which will give you a copyable URL in your browser's address bar. This, plus the in-game stats, might allow for a little competition: who creates a particular painting in the least number of cycles? Who needs the fewest holes in their punch cards to do it?

An HTML5 game made with HaxeFlixel. No audio. Tested on Chrome and Firefox.

POST-COMPO CHANGES:

- Added the browser scrollbar for those who need it.

- Added keyboard controls to make up for small click targets; press F1 for help. If you want to experience the true compo version, just ignore them ;)
