Theme: Horror
Setting: School, Winter, Canada?

Game story: The backup generator that powers the local school is still functioning after a 10 year long winter has caused the modern world to crumble, the temperatures outside are low enough to kill you after prolonged exposure. People swarmed and took refuge in certain buildings that miraculously survived. In this school the generator is keeping the electric heating system up and running and so the building is habitable. However as the generator slowly dies the heating is running out of power and the temperature is dropping. The main character is a lone survivor of the freak winter who has been searching for a permanent shelter in which to live. You have not lived a comfortable (or warm) life and so you have picked up many skills along the way to help you survive, for example, the required knowledge to repair a generator. Big coincidence right? After finding and entering the school the character opts to take care of the breaking generator but no one tells him of the infestation that lives below the school (where the generator is.)

Game mechanics:
You have to find and use any heat source you can find, this will help you to survive longer down in the basement
You are not a fighter, it’s best to avoid the enemies in this game, however you can attack them if it is necessary (you can not kill them however)
Light is also an important factor, the lights are out to save power and you have no flashlight, you must go back to your survival days and build a torch (fire)
When you eventually find the generator you have to gather the parts to repair it, this will be challenging while trying to survive

====================================================
This was supposed to be the game at least however we have run into problems since creating it. The first problem(and the biggest problem) was that we did not start coding the game mechanics right away, instead we focused our time into creating the intro to the game which is just you walking into a darn building, took a whole entire day to make that. The second problem was that Unity Cloud sometimes deletes game objects at random making our game a lot more confusing and harder to make since sometimes we had to recreate some game objects from scratch. However compared it to the first problem, this is a pretty minor problem.

Lesson Learned

even though we could not create a finished game I don't our time went completely to waste. First of all, we learned a lot about game development and whats its like to create games with more than one person in Unity, and how cloud works. Second of all and most important of all, we learned that we ## have ## to create the game mechanics first before we do anything else. Initially, we pretty much focused all of our time in the non-fun part of our game or what some might say a the breath taking intro (No one actually said that by the way...)

What we have planned for the next Ludum Dare

First up is that we are not gonna use Unity, I found that there are still some bugs in the engine that might halt progress for a while and Unity Cloud is buggy too as it sometimes deletes the random game objects. Also it sometimes conflicts with the main scene which puts everyone at a weird stance of what to do. I might learn SFML in the mean while, before Ludum Dare 40 starts in which I am even more hyped for because its a round number and also I have a better understand of what to do now.
