Apr 16th|9.26 am nothing new - it's all old
So I'm sitting at work, just went through all the usual forums and whatnot, took me a whopping 27 minutes. I'm so restless regarding the competition, I went and re-read all the 3rd round candidates and checked my votes. I'm quite weary of about 50% of the themes, including a number of probably popular themes. I'm quite pumped though :), can't wait to start designing.
Apr 16th|Precisely 4.25 pm T minus 4 hours 35 minutes
Work's almost done, then it's a rush home to run shower change (SNO made me move hay today, go figure love the scientists) then install devkitadvance and walk myself through a couple demos.. I'll let everyone know right now.. I've only ever used the GBA for about a day, and wrote a quick 'blood' demo under the pseudonym 'diabolik'. I'm sure I learnt everything I needed to in those few short hours though.. ah well. I'll post some pics tonight as well so y'all can see my setup and stuff.
Apr 16th|9.13 pm infection. infection
It's infection everyone. yayy.. I got my idea I got my idea. So it's the DDR clone it is, hopefully GBA as a target platform if I can get it working in the next hour or so, otherwise I might have to step into the land of the living and do something on the computer, we'll have to see.
Apr 16th|9.44 pm it's going okay for 30 minutes
so I got a GBA compiler working, and am gimping away some graphics.. yay!
Apr 17th|1.08 am FAWQ
So.. I was wrong at 9.44 that the compiler was working, turns out linux GBA dev is something that "support" doesn't mean "works". The assembly script is all out of alignment. Only two minutes ago I found some remote page about the stupid thing, grr! it now compiles but doesn't run. woo.heh. fuck me. I did some graphics though, checkout http://th0mas.sdf.lonestar.org/game-background-blue.pcx.
Apr 17th|1.32 am only way out is in
Yeah, uhm.. It doesn't work. Thankfully I found convoluted answers by some people in gbadev that made me realize it's not my fault and it is an actual honest to god issue, so I'm gonna move on now and finish graphics and maybe some of my sound stuff.. that way I can try tomorrow to do the code and tonight not be a complete waste.
Apr 17th|10.17 am Plan for the day: Get Windows, install a GBA devkit for Windows, and then start coding. You'd think people would test their programs before releasing them in an unusable state. My favorite is HAM, the author released the linux copy as a RAR file, effectively removing all of the file attributes from the archive. Weh two goh!
Apr 17th|11.06pm where are we here..
well in the last 10 hours I did a OS install, got the thing working got an honest to god worm while windows updating.. sigh. things are coming together, screens and music posted tomorrow
Apr 18th|3.03am yay
T minus.. 18 hours. Ten of qhich will be sleep, shit.. that leaves 8 hours to finish! ah well I'm doing okay I got the core of the game running now it's just the input handling music and a start menu thing.. yay! oh and levels scoring dying top ten saving loading hahahahaha fun shit.
