Behind the screens: The making of Over Learn
Fhew... Ok this didn't go as well as I hoped it would. First I didn't like the theme that much, it was really hard to come up with ideas. I spent almost an hour and a half coming up with an idea, thinking it had potential, then scrapping it.
Then I stopped... I asked myself: What would be really bad to have a lot of?... Then it hit me. HOMEWORK!
Since I study engineering in university I have a lot of homework to do and finals exams are fast approaching I decided to make a homework simulator, where as each day passes and the better student you are the more work you have to do.
I took a more minimalist approach so I could polish my game better.
It was my first time making a "card-game" so the first hours were spent making the pickup-drag-drop system then I made some textures some buttons and went to sleep (in my timezone the theme announcement were at 3am, I went to bed at 7). I couldn't sleep well so at 9 o'clock I went back to coding. At the end of the day the basic game was almost finished. I went to bed early this time so I could sleep a bit more. But shock my phone died, so I overslept! I was coding like crazy to make up for the lost time... And I did! I even had time to get my friends to test the game for me (I hope that is not against the Compo rules) and I fixed the issues they had with it.
Then here we are, I finished my game, you finished yours and now comes the good part! Playing!
I plan to stream some games over Twitch (name there: Khaktos) Maybe we will meet there!
Oh and I almost forgot here is my game, Over Learn: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/over-learn
