HITMAN: The Floor Is Lava is a tile-based puzzle game where you must eliminate your targets without backtracking, stepping on tiles that you've already been on, or being shot in the face by guards!
The game includes a tutorial, so just jump right in and play!
Boring backstory: This is my second submission for the Ludum Dare, and lemme tell you: it was just as exciting to create as the first! I was really lost with the theme in this one. *Running Out of Space* gave me ideas about making some kind of illness-infested village where the player gradually gets overcrowded by sick villagers and it's a struggle to survive. Meanwhile, my friend suggested a runner game where the player would be trying to escape a collapsing mine: also running out of space. Lots of ideas were thrown around, but eventually I came up with a 2D hitman game where you could never step where you've already been, slightly inspired by HITMAN GO, and obviously by the HITMAN series of games. At first the game was meant to include the ability to poison your targets and set up traps, but after realizing the time constraints I chose to focus the game entirely around a simplified range of mechanics, and I think working within the limits of my own game when designing the levels was a very fun challenge on its own!
Finally, I really hope you enjoy the game as much as I loved making it, and can leave me some feedback while you're at it. Enjoy Ludum Dare 42, everyone!
That's a really good game! I'm not that good for puzzle games so it was really tough for me. I liked a lot the gameplay mechanics you've put in place. The simples rules are easy to grasp but allows to make some complex levels. The music suits the game perfectly well and the artstyle is neat. Congratulation on making this game.
The game is really fun. I am a huge fan of Hitman go and this is right up my alley. Although the difficulty does spike once you get to the first large level.
Nice puzzle game! Very engaging once I got the hang of it. The spike in difficulty was a bit harsh for my taste, but other than that it was really fun and enjoyable! Solid entry, especially for a compo game!
I really liked the game. I found that the levels were interesting. Personally, I liked the difficulty (and it's easy to restart), I would have liked to play longer. Good work!
Its a really engaging puzzle game, makes you think before you take the next level. Gave the final level the ol college try but it ended up beating me. Nonetheless, great game!
I loved this game! I just wish there were a couple more levels. The final couple levels were very challenging and well done. Overall the game is super great, and I had a blast playing this on stream
That is a really well designed game and you caught the spirit of Hitman games really good. It really feels like Hitman game when you walk around the map trying to memorize the layout and then assassinate key targets by waiting for them to be alone. The graphics are pretty minimalistic but i like the style and music is really setting the great mood for the game. It's a really fun and well made game overall!
Pretty solid game! Even though there's only a few levels, it still took me a while to play since it was so challenging. I'm pretty sure I solved the mansion level in an unintended way, since I didn't use that lower part...
Nice! Real challenging levels, and a fantastic effort for the compo! Real nice use of the theme and perfectly captures Hitman, I did find it confusing often to know which square I was in because your placement is at the bottom of the square but got used to it eventually, it cracks me up everytime I am killed as it looks like I'm shot with laser eyes :D
Good entry! It really feels like a hitman game despite the simple graphics. The challenges capitalized a bit too much on the fact that you can't see the whole level at once; I ended up making decisions I probably wouldn't have had I seen the whole picture beforehand. An undo feature might be nice, but I can see how that could take away from the spirit of the game.
That said, the challenges are fun and getting shot is surprisingly juicy -- I would love to see some more levels!
