My first game, had great fun. Will participate again! Feel free to have a try :) its a difficult fast paced platformer that can get quite intense llet me know what you think?
Really fun! Feels good to play. :) Itd be nice if the music didn't restart everytime you fail a given level, it would be less jarring. Either way, good game!
I like how you have to master the levels and find shortcuts. You should try and make it clear that you can multi-jump. It's also a bit confusing that you can move and jump with wasd but can only move with the arrow keys.
Great controls, and great fun figuring out the fastest route in each level. I had the most difficulty with the first water level, but I liked how the music picked up right as you neared the end :)
This is a really well done game. I really like the music, and while it is a simple interpretation of the theme I think that it really works well. The art is really well done and the game plays well, it is fun and smooth to jump up and around. The levels that I tried were just the right amount of challenging, and the instant restart made it not feel all that bad to fail and have to try again. Very well done, especially as a first Ludum Dare entry.
This game is so challenging, but feels rewarding after you completed the level. the music too really adds the mood, did you make it yourself? please contact me.
A little difficult, used to press the space jump! But very fun. The graphics are beautiful. Great work!Closed is the platform level of picture is very interesting!
Awesome :) !! I believe this is the first LD game I've completed from A to Z. Despite the so so graphics this game feels great ! The controls are awesome and the level design is really neat ! The game also fits very nicely with the theme : running out of space ! A big well done ! Oh ans also I like the music, it's just very calm and nice...
Nice game. The controls feel amazing and your music is very good. A restart button would be great though, sometimes I had to wait around awhile for the walls to kill me. And the collisions on the spikes feel a little unforgiving, they could possibly be a little smaller. But overall solid game, actually has inspired me to make a sort of "tower climb" game.
This really needs a restart button. Collisions needs some tweaking, and graphic assets are too simple maybe. After that, good work! This is a little and cute game to play in spare time, yet addicting. Play mine if you want! I really need some advices and feedbacks to improve myself https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/void-knight-vs-pest
this was a fun little game. some things to point out to make the game better. dont have the walls close in so fast. also this game would improve so much with wall jumping. you could even increase the difficulty aswell like in celest.
I'm really bad at the game ... I found the first level was a bit unforgiving for a new player. Maybe other players can tap the keys faster, but I found I just got whipped out really quickly. Keep going with this game or others ... it was really well done.
The game overall is fairly interesting, could do with a restart button but you die fairly quickly so you could get away with not having one. The triple jump also felt inconsistent at times especially when jumping from slopes. I little more polish and I think this would turn out quite nice.
Love it! The music is good, the simple art sets a nice tone and the mechanics are fun with the triple jump. The only thing that bothered me is that the triple jump seemed inconsistent, sometimes I could jump once, sometimes twice and sometimes three times
Really fun game, Feels good to play, background music is appropriate, particles are nice and I like the artstyle of the game. One thing to note is that sometimes the hitboxes felt a bit unfair, but otherwise a nice game!
Good little game here, really dig the triple jump, sometimes it feels more optimal to do 1 jump vs 3 and that makes the gameplay feel fun and varied. Only got to level 3 so im not sure if it changes later but would be keen to see it with some more variation in the look of the levels. Well done.
Nice idea and cool minimalist graphics! Two quibbles, though. One: sometimes, you only see the objects above you when you hit them (e.g. you don't know they're there when making the jump). This may be inevitable with the triple jump, but it makes progressing through levels more frustrating than it should be. Two: don't reset the music every time the character dies, as in my case it dies A LOT and it's like I'm hearing the first few seconds of the soundtrack on repeat :) Otherwise, it's a very solid entry.
Was quick to pick up and play. Well created and smooth mechanics, neat graphics. Only thing i would of liked is if the music didn't restart everytime you died as it became quite jarring. Also when using the arrow keys i couldn't press the up arrow to jump so an alternative like space would of been nice!
I beat it. I think the level design was nice and it had a nice difficulty curve. And to my knowledge there was was more than one way to beat a level, so it takes a little experimenting to find the best route. The music fits the game. Nice game.
Nice entry for the compo. The controls work really smooth as well the music and the graphics fits the claustrophobic theme. I wasnt able to beat the level, but that is due to my poor ability. However i managed to get a little better after practicate a little. Good job!
A very good start. The game itself is very punishing but rewarding. Controls are smooth but I found some of the sideways spikes a little off, dying when I was sure I cleared them. Interesting choice of music in the first level! the polar opposite of what you'd expect from such a frantic game. It works in an ironic kind of way! Good work overall!
Nice, didn't understand how the tripple jump worked, but managed to finish the first level without it. One tip is to make the first levels easier and not just go instant hard mode -- but was fun anyway.
Hard game, barely got past the first lvl and then I got stuck. A restart button would be nice when the walls have closed too much and the lvl can't be passed anymore.
Very difficult platforming. My skills didnt get me to the end but I enjoyed it. There is something with the movement of the character that feels satisfying, also maybe you would want to let players know that they can triple jump, I was playing with double jump until like 10th-ish time that I realized I can triple jump too. The particle effect after each jump is still looping after being spawned though, just a small detail but if I fail to make a jump and fall down and do it again, the old jump effects are very distracting. Simple idea, clean implementation, there is a lot to add to this. Good job finishing in 48h.
Nice game, I've managed to beat it. It's fun to play. The difficulty and level design are just right to make you keep trying and enjoy the game. The music also really sets the mood.
A simple idea, well executed. Though I have to say I far prefer the raining levels to the walls crushing ones - the latter can screw you over by hiding platforms you need to progress long before it actually kills you, which I think makes for really bad game feel.
Graphically, the little alien dude is adorable, but nothing else stands out - working some more to make the levels and other features pop would be a good way to improve the game.
Also, the song is pretty chill and relaxing, but it restarts every time you finish a level or lose a life! Why? I want to keep hearing it, instead I just hear the first three notes over and over and over again...
Overall, a nice job, brought down by slight details that make a huge diference.
Overall, I had a great time with this game! It was simple enough to be intuitive yet difficult in design, but not enough to be frustrating. I had a lot of fun playing it, and while I don't think it's the most innovative out of the submissions I've seen so far, it makes it up in charm. While you didn't do anything super out of the box with the theme, I do enjoy how you stuck to what's really important, making games fun. The music and simple graphics (I especially liked the blob) evoked that feeling as well. If anything, I would've made the music kick in a bit earlier or not loop when you die - those little additions you made later on were really nice and I was sad that the level would end as soon as the music started getting interesting. Controls were very smooth and responsive! Good work, I really enjoyed playing!
Edit: also saw that this was your first game - that's awesome! Good start!
Nice idea and great execution. Little hard but insta - restart gives you oportunity to try again and again and again.. so you immidietly forget about frustration that was building up whlie playing.
I really like simple form and no scope creep here, no UI was not an issue with this one :)
Nice entry, well done for a first submission! It's a super hard kind of game, but it's assumed and not caused by unbalancing, so it feels quite fair for the most of the levels I managed to play.
Cool to see another take on the same interpretation that I did :)
In my opinion, you should have waited to move the hazards until the player inputs anything to make the character move, especially because you cancel input listening when you respawn. In other words, when you die holding the A key to go left, you respawn and your A key is ignored, yet, the hazards do trigger and you die quickly.
@frontlinesaint We've finished Part 1 of our Play and Rate video for Ludum Dare 42, and we've added it per your response. Check it out! https://youtu.be/vuUp1EYEiuA (The video may be uploading for a little while. If so, check back after a day or so)
Good game, would be nice to see some balancing by adjusting the difficulty ramp. Maybe start with 2-3 easy levels a progress into more and more challenging levels.
Nice job! Good gameplay and music. Kinda buggy that the music restarts whenever you restart the room. I recommend you try fixing that (make it only play on the beginning of the game).
Hey this is really cool! I'm going to have to hook up a different keyboard with less sensative sparebar later and give it another go just because I enjoyed it. The third platform (angled with the spikes above it) was exceptionally difficult to get around but once I did I felt like I could go a lot further (hence I'm gonna play again later). Nice job!
I like the visuals in this game, especially those fancy jump particles! They did seem to spawn out of place or randomly sometimes (probably a bug?), but they look good, nonetheless!
I thought the music was really calming, although it would've been nice to have it play over the whole game, rather than restarting upon death or level completion.
The theme I thought was used pretty effectively, and I like how on some levels it's the walls that are closing in on you, but on other levels you mix it up and have the water start rising-- it kept things interesting!
The levels were designed quite well. I never felt like I was flying through them, but I didn't feel frustrated either (then again, maybe it was just that music keeping me calm). Seriously though, I felt like it was a really good balance of difficulty!
Overall, this was an interesting game, and very fun to play. Good work!
Game looks good but the learning curve is not the best one out there and keeps it from fully enjoying it. It's okay to have difficult levels, but not right off the bat, it should be somewhat progressive.
@frontlinesaint A nice implementation of the them, really enjoyed even i couldn't go much further. It would be nice to add counter to the game, to make it more fun and addictive.
Nice looking game with good moody music. Game-play was good, all though I didn't get far due to my poor reflexes. Suited the theme well. Took me many goes before I realized there was a double/triple jump. (I know it's mentioned in the instructions ... didn't read them until I saw I wasn't getting anywhere) I played the html5 version and the window size was a little big, right-hand side was a bit out of frame. But I switched to full screen and then it was ok.
Really good overall. The music was calming, yet subtly infuriating after dying repeatedly :)
