The controls on the robot arm are set exactly to the angle of the game pad sticks.
A gameplay tip is that you have to be careful and smooth with your motion. Make big smooth circle with the game pad sticks and you'll be able to move the chicks within the claw or with the arm itself.
Think of it like the claw machine at the arcade, if you whip that thing back and forth you aren't picking up any chicks.
