Rhyming Roast 'em Up!

This is a game about challenging animals to rap battles for the right to roast and eat them, to summon and challenge the great God of Rap.

Progress through 3 Dance Dance Revolution style rap battles, to prove your fire burns the hottest!

About 5-10 minutes

* You can quite literally roast a fish in a rap battle
* Unless you lose, the fish eats you then

Controls

* WASD or arrow keys to move and rap
* Space to interact with characters, and progress dialogue
* Close the game to quit

Content warnings

* Implied cartoon violence (screen jumps to black, an eating noise is heard, and when the screen returns an opponent is no longer there). This can happen to the human main character, a dog, a fish, or a cloaked figure.
* Game should be suitable for minors

Other than that, there is no physical aggression, bad language, or sensitive topics covered in the lyrics.

If you find anything in the game you would deem needing of a warning, please let me know and I'll add it!

Accessibility

As a rhythm game, the challenge faced will vary greatly depending on the user. The game is designed to give a sense of challenge to all but experienced rhythm game players, but still be fully to most, without too many attempts.

Difficulty setting is on the roadmap for the post-jam version, but in the meantime if you find the game too challenging and want an easier version, please let me know and I'll send you a tailored build.

This was really fun! I love the artstyle you used, and the music was great. I thought the mechanic of filling in the words as you pressed the arrows worked really well, especially with showing how many you missed as you went. Really good job on this one!

Great game! I think my favourite thing was the fact that it takes multiple times to start the rap battle, like you're really goading them into it. Very clever!

Quite interesting to see a rhythm game like this, it's funny and cute! Lovely graphics and sounds but the boss was too hard for me so I got roasted.

I really enjoyed this game, the amount of work put in to write rhymes, record fitting audio effects and music is impressive. Really good job. The gameplay was a simple dance game mechanic but I liked the humor and mood which this game had. The graphics are also cute and a nice clash with the stereotype of rap. The way the theme fit in was a bit weak I thought though. Nice entry, would've liked some more innovative elements to the gameplay, for example sacrificing a certain arrow to make it go slower so,ething like that but good overall.

Wow, that was a dark take on the theme haha. The whole game feels super polished, like A LOT. Loved the subtle camera movement, the battle intros and animations. It feels very alive.

Gameplay felt weaker though. It's a rhythm game, but the rhythm is always pretty much the same and, while the audio is nice, music is probably not as charismatic as one would expect from a game like this. I'd say this is missing some extra element to make it truly unique, whether that's a more interesting soundtrack or a twist in the mechanics.

Anyway, these are minor things. The game is quite fun and very polished. It just needs something different that sets it apart from similar games. Congrats on finishing the jam!
