You’re starting from the bottom – the actual bottom. As in, the sewer. How you ended up here? Who are you? All unimportant. What’s important is that you have absolutely nothing to your name, until – lo! A cockroach on bent paperclip stilts appears and makes you a tantalizing offer.

“It looks like you’re new here,” he tells you, rummaging around in his travel sack and producing a slightly malodorous egg. “Perhaps I can be of assistance.”

And so your first trade is born.

Progressing through the complex world of sewer commodities, you start to get a better picture of the sewer and its inhabitants. You also begin to understand the latent value system lurking behind the veil of seemingly-useless washed-up sewer junk. With every trade you make, you gain capital and prestige, until, at last, you reach the final trade. But will all your wheeling and dealing leave you with true lasting happiness, or an inherent longing for the simpler life you left behind? Will you learn a lesson about what is truly valuable?!

Probably not. But you’ll meet a lot of great rats with hats, and at the end of the day, isn’t that what really counts?

Built in 72 hours for Ludum Dare 2019 with love by Zach, Maryana, Sam, and Tom. It was a great weekend of learning new things, drawing rats, eating snacks, and generally having a good time! Our team is split between the west and east coast, so timezones were definitely on our side, too.
