To make a nest, sometimes you've gotta quack a few eggs.
Eat food and lay eggs while keeping the pesky fish away from your babies (and your toes), then combine some sticks to make a nest that will protect your young.
Controls:
WASD - Movement
Left Click - Dash
Escape - Pause
Tips:
Fish will injure you if they hit your body! Be sure to deal with them safely by snapping at them with your beak. If you're injured, you will not lay eggs, and will instead focus on healing yourself when you eat food. The only way to score any points is by depositing eggs in a nest. Nests can (very) occasionally be found in the world, but most likely you'll have to construct your own. Push sticks together to form a bigger bunch; bunch at least 3 sticks together to create a nest.
the overall game is ok, but the sound is not very calming for th situation, It misses some tutorial. I like the way only the bick works for getting food, but it took a while to undertand that the fish hurts me, part for having no feedback and part for not making sense. the constrols could only on the keyboard and would work just fine. the dash is so fast and there is no cooldown that the duck cant follow the camera. 2/10
Nice game! Dodging/fighting the fish works really well. I like the graphics a lot. I found the nest building quite frustrating though - it was difficult to control the sticks and the fish are quite unforgiving, so I found it nearly impossible to actually finish building a nest. I think it'd be more fun if that were easier, or if you died less quickly, or could regenerate health somehow (eg by eating apples)
I enjoyed your game, very nice graphics and gameplay. Quite hard to succeed, i managed and was happy to build my nest but never got to put all the eggs inside! Good work
I've gotten a TON of feedback here and from personal friends that things are a bit too hard/punishing. I suppose I fell somewhat into the trap of being really good at my own game (due to all the play-testing) and tailored the difficulty to myself instead of thinking of the broader audience. I've released a small balance patch that makes it easier to build a nest, take less time to accumulate eggs, and the ability to heal. See description for more details...
The music was relaxing. I actually grabbed my guitar and tried to jam along. The simple melody is peaceful and a good choice for a game like this. The graphics looked 3D in the still images, but definitely looked 2D once I was in the game. Overall, I think the graphics and sound were both attractive and complimented each other. I would definitely play this game again.
Making the body vulnerable and the beak the offensive part of the duck makes it strategic plus the dash mechanic adds something to the gameplay. Finding eggs is hard though. I wish there's something else to get score which will compliment the dash body/beak mechanic.
