Deeper and deeper... into debt.
Developed solo by @gamedevklingon in 72 hours for the #48th Ludum Dare

Based on GTA2 and DopeWars

Goal:

You have 30 days to collect $50 000 and pay off your debts to the Loan Shark

You can steal vehicles and sell them, buy and sell contrabands, or work as a legit garbage man.

Controls:

WASD : Movement

Left shift : Turbo ( car )

E : Enter vehicle

F: Disembark vehicle

L: Teleport to location (Lose 1 day and $50)

F8 : Restart the game

The game is almost completed, but I lacked time to finish it properly. It is still playable entirely but, bugs are to be expected. (UI bugs... please run in full screen)

I'm currently working on a post-jam version of the game ;)

*Note*
I have been incredibly busy since the LD, I will try to post update, bug fix, screenshots and more as soon as possible!

Please don't vote the AUDIO (there is none). I am unable to opt-out :(

The HTML5 version is not playable yet. Please use the windows version until its fixed.

Great concept! I couldn't manage to save myself from the debt, but had fun driving around on that tiny pixel car XD
Some music/sfx would have been nice, but cool submission anyway!

I like the idea and the visuals. I have not much idea how I am suppose to play the game, but it's fun driving around in the city.

The game looks pretty, but is very bare bones and lacks actual gameplay. I feel like most of the time is spend on creating a world and not on a smaller sandbox. Although the goal is very clear, the game or your delivered docs lacks a clear explanation on how to achieve it. I think 30 days was a bit too much, and a focus on just 5-10 days with more content would be more fruitful.

By far the best thing are the random cars and their janky driving behaviour. It is weird, quirky, but in a good way. I believe an entire game with just these cars would be absolutely hilarious and would make for a great time. Perhaps even a multiplayer/co-op experience would make the jankiness even more funny. A very nice side product and something I would love to be expanded upon.

Although it looks like a game with great potential. I can really feel the time shortage on this one.

Thank you very much for trying the game ! I lacked time to put clear instructions in-game and polish it, but the general idea is there :)
I'm am working on a postjam version, the gameplay is taking place in New York City :)

The game is pretty decent looking. More clear instructions what to do and more balanced gameplay would definitely help.

Since you're using unity - this could happily be turned into a voxel style. As others have said, the NPC car driving is pretty fun, and with some tweaks to the player car, could be a more enjoyable driving experience. Reversing / getting onto road was hard when hitting obstacles, and a mini-map / radar would be cool. :v:

I like the idea of running around the city jumping in cars and playing a drug dealing pixelated chracter exploring the city and stuff is potentially fun, but I really needed a map (or smaller world) and my car seemed incredibly slow and felt a bit painful to drive + all the other cars were driving insanely fast and kept hitting into me. Managed to find one dealer buy some overpriced stuff take it to another and realise i had got a bad deal.. but then was just driving around and couldn't find another one again. Not sure if just driving back and forth trading would be fun enough in itself, maybe. Sort of felt like I should be armed. Got potential but probably a bit of an ambitious project for LD.

I think the ambition and scope of this submission is amazing, and I would love to play the post-jam version. I do think maybe a smaller-scoped jam version could focus slightly more on gameplay. Loved the graphics and I really felt like I was in a big city.
