Splatter Bounce
This was my first attempt at anything game-like since I was a kid. It's VanillaJS using canvases. The game is simple - you're a box and you need to collect the yellow box to get points, while avoiding the flying bad guys. I followed a simple platformer tutorial and riffed on that. I added the bad guys, their basic AI, the bomb mechanic, some particle effects, and other bits and pieces.
It took me a long while just to get the basics down and so "Deeper and Deeper" is represented by the continually falling background splatters. I did think it'd be cool to build a 'falling down the level' mechanic but I won't have time, most likely.
If you play, please share your high score! Rounds are only 30s so it's quick to jump in.

Thanks! I'll do some more play-testing to figure out those stuck blocks. I realised the instructions don't mention double-jumping, which is key to traversing the level quickly.. Whoops!

Top score 68 ! Great little game. Yes indeed the instructions don't mention the double jump which took me a while to figure out, I was always getting stuck somewhere. Also I couldn't jump with the jump arrow I had to use W. I think it might be good to have some sort of button to restart the game as well when you finish because at the beginning I was not realizing that they were different rounds. Maybe the contrast between platforms and background could be a bit more visible even though I know it's kind of the point of the colors in the back.

I like the gameplay. the double jump requires a slightly different timing than most I've seen, I like the unique feel. It was fun figuring out more efficient ways to play with the limited instructions, it felt like an accomplishment. And I like the way the enemies create and destroy the color splatters to reveal the platforms in a randomized way. My best score was 146

It's pretty, but no idea of what I'm doing
I liked the color splatter effects.
Movement was bit hectic and some yellow squares can spawn in places where you can not get them.
Nice first game!
