Okay, so I have a lot of feedback to provide. I don't want this to sound super negative, but there is a lot that needs to be addressed here.

First things first, let's talk about one of the easiest mistakes for new game developers to make. Blind Jumps. Take a look at the following screenshot:

As the developer, you might even recognize exactly where that is in the game. You know what's around this point, above and below because you made it. When a player reaches this point, they have no idea what's below them, but they know they are required to move downwards. As it turns out, there is indeed solid ground below them, but for all they knew there could have been hazards or no ground at all!

Now take into consideration, this section:

A cunning player may recall from before, that despite not being able to see below them, surely that is where they must go. Only to meet a watery grave. There's no indication of where to go, or where not to go for that matter. In a platforming game, the most important thing is to let the players know where to go on a single screen. Obviously the player is moving to the right, or up, but given the context of what is currently on screen, the player should be thinking about how to go from where they are standing, to where they want to be standing. If they player can't see anything except what they are currently standing on, they have no destination, and don't know how to proceed.

Another important thing to let the players know about is how they can interact with the environment. They learn rather quickly that the Ogre cannot be jumped on like a standard Mario goomba. I didn't check with any other enemies, perhaps they can be jumped on but not the ogre? There needs to be clear indication or the player could run the risk of finding out, only to be punished and sent back to the start. You should never punish the player for being curious, and on that note, there should absolutely be checkpoints.

The music might be longer than a 2 second loop, but it's so repetitive that it feels like 2 seconds. I usually aim for a 3 minute long loop while composing the music for my games.

Congrats on finishing a game and submitting it! That's more than a lot of developers could do. According to the Ludum Dare stats, there were 2,797 entries that didn't submit, so I genuinely do applaud you for pushing through and submitting a game. It looks like it was your first Ludum Dare, and I hope you all stick with it and make more games in the future! Listen to the feedback from other developers, it will help your future games be much more polished. Good luck, and congrats on submitting a game. Nice work.

It's got some nice graphics but I couldn't see how to get past the 1st enemy. I couldn't seem to jump over them and I couldn't find a "weapon" key to use against it so I just got stuck unable to progress. I'm sure I'm missing something but I don't know what.

Congrats on getting a game in!!!
