Use the fantastical tools provided to You from the Deck Of Discord! But do be careful! Using these cards may come at a price~! Overuse might lead to them becoming... UNSTABLE!~Hello! It's me João(Bear) this time to talk to you about our Ludum Dare 49 "Unstable" themed submission!
Objectives / How to play
Objective:
Your objective is to guide our green robed friend, using the controls explained below, and traverse as many tiles as you can from the bottom row tiles to the very top ones! How to play:
Lead our little adventurer one tile at a time avoiding as many traps as possible. Your score, in the end, will go up the more tiles you walk through before you reach the top row of tiles! When you stumble into a hazardous tile, you will be faced with three(3) options: You, either, tread through the trap as suffer its consequenses # OR # use the fantastical tool cards, randomly assorted, at Your disposal, to circumvent these, pesky, dungeon hoodwinks! Beware tho... Only certain cards can be used into certain traps.
Don't have the right card for the situation? Dreading the damage our little wizard hatted companion will take? well there's a THIRD OPTION!: THE CARD MONTE! At the cost of points, at the end of your run, you can test your luck and score yourself the perfect card for the occasion, allowing you to continue on your journey! But take too long tho, each run is time, presented to you at the end!
The game is really easy! So play for a high score or to have a fast time!

Dev comments
This will be our 3rd Ludum Dare in a row! Only a team of two this time!
In perfect "US" fashion, our scope for this game jam submission was too wide just to be made in only three days! Meaning the game lacks a few key features we had initially planned to add to tie our submission *more* into the theme of "Unstable"...
For instance, we wanted the cards, to have an increasing chance of failing, the more you used the same kind of card, as the run went on. We also wanted to implement a sort of metal detector card...a scry/clairvoyance effect that would reveal, in a radius, the tiles around you, letting you know which tiles were safe, and the one who're traps... Allowing you to plan out you next moves in order to amass as many points without worrying about sneaky traps!
Diogo (cake) and I (Bear) found ourselves forced into prioritizing adding the gameplay loop and clean up any issues that would remove the player from the core experience of Deck O' Discord. (a reoccurring theme, it seems). That didn't stop us from doing as much as we could and squeeze in as much content as we could, in such a ammount of time!
Thank you for giving our game a try, please rate if you can and share with us the score/time you got, in the comments!
Have a good one~
~ João (Bear)
