Hello my name is Dakota Smith and I began work on Decoffinated this weekend. A game about a Zombie in charge of a stressful Cafe that threatens to kill him again. But I wanted to actually test ALL of my abilities over the shortest amount of time possible. So instead of treating this like a competition, I treated it as a self challenge. I set out some very strict rules for myself that I adhered to even when I shouldn't have.

1. No purchased software. Although I have Aseprite, Zbrush, Substance Painter, and Quixel I opted not to use any of it.
I used Blender to model, sculpt, texture, and retopologize. I used Krita for the 2D side of things. I never got to any sound.

2. Solo life. I have some artist friends that couldn't make it. So it was a 1 man job. Everything you see was made by me and me alone.

3. NO Purchased assets, or royalty free assets. I really wanted to make things as difficult as possible to force some growth on myself. I needed to do all the art, animation, texturing, sculpting, UV unwrapping, and Retopology all in a 48 hour span. I also set a rule not to use any artwork I have previously made, and it works out cause I have never modelled in this style before XD...

4. 3D........... This one I actually regret. Retopology alone took an entire day... By the time I realized I wasnt going to hit the deadline, it was too late. But I'm proud of what I achieved in a 3 day span... And even though the game is not beatable, I hope some solo devs play it just to see what one person can do in 3 days, with no help, no assets, and no code base. which brings me to my last constraint.

5. NO code bases... Im actually a programmer first. Art is my weakness so I started there. Ive been programming in UE4 for around 6 years. So Ive developed quite the substantial code base. I decided not to use any of it.... a decision I regret now, but a commitment is a commitment. I started out with the original idea of ONLY C++ as an additional constraint parameter, but intellesense and slow error checking made it impossible. so I had to refactor to blueprint halfway through due to incompetence and hubris on my part....

What not to do... I had 4 hours of sleep a night, hardly ate or slept, and it really wasnt worth it, so I probably wont be putting these constraints on next time....

The Game is not beatable, but it will be soon cause Ive come too far to stop, and will continue with the constraints that I have for this project to show that it is possible for a 1 man show to make a more detailed and difficult to manage project. I aim to publish on steam before the end of this month.

If you still decide to play it, I appreciate the support! and tell me what you think of the concept!
