"MENDEL'S DRAGONS", AKA "Mendel's Experiment On Dragons Hybridization", is a 2D simulation game based on Mendel's law of inheritance. Story: As a Great Wizard of Dragon Hybridization, you have bred multiform dragons which have different Genes and unstable Biological Characters in your farm. And the king ordered you to raise some dragons which have specific and stable Biological Characters in 3 years.
Dragon: Three heads, no legs, silver horns, red wings…Since your dragons have so many unstable Biological Characters, you have to make a stable homozygote by hybridization.
◎Drag two dragons from the normal area to the mating area. Then they will lay an egg. ◎Check every dragon's information by a simple right click. ◎Sell the dragons you don't need by dragging them to your castle. ◎Expand the normal area or mating area by blowing up obstacles! ◎Hold the mouse wheel to drag the map. Zoom with the wheel to have a panoramic view of the Dark Forest.
NPC: Some neighbors living in the Dark Forest may help you to finish the quest. ◎If you need more dragons to provide specific Genes, the hunter will be happy to sell you some monthly. ◎If you want to gain more money by selling dragons, the merchant will show you the monthly bonus and remind you the king's require
Summary: The more dragons you keep need more money to feed every month, while the less dragons have less Genes to mate. Try to make stable homozygous dragons, and keep a stable economic situation for your farm!
Change Log(10/9): Added more tutorials about genes, slightly increased the chance of getting the dragon you want, and fixed some spelling mistakes
-(10/10): Fixed some bugs that caused unexpected pause.
Really fantastic! The art is great, music is nice and fits the environment well, and the game systems work well. I liked playing it a lot, and I can imagine this being scaled up to a full game that people would really get into. I did struggle with getting the right dragons early in the game (like not being able to get a red dragon despite multiple refreshes), but otherwise the game felt fair and fun to play. Excellent overall, well done!!
Well done! Art style matches the music and looks great. Breeding succesfully was very satisfying, had to have a few gos tho, the learning curve was a bit steep.
Heads up that I couldn't get it to load in browser for some reason (just got the initial Unity loading screen forever)... but the art looks fantastic and the game sounds very original and complex. I'll check back later to see if it loads!
Well made art, music (wish there were more tracks since it got pretty repetitive after a while--the production quality of that one track is excellent, though!) and SFX. The gameplay itself is very enjoyable with high replayability. It's challenging enough that I have to strategise a bit, but still have fun playing it--anticipating the breeding results is both nerve-wracking and satisfying (when you get the combination right) at the same time! The gene guide also helped a lot with making decisions, so it's good that you added it in.
There are some spelling mistakes here and there, and the game also doesn't seem to have a proper 'game over' event or screen, but they don't take away from the enjoyment of playing it. If you do decide to expand on the game post-jam (maybe with a longer storyline?), I'd probably play it again!
(It's a bit unfortunate that I couldn't fulfil the king's 2nd request of 1000 dragons, though. Is it even possible to do it...?)
Good game. Cool graphics, nice music and atmosphere. It's just not very clear how a new dragon is generated. I couldn't make my dragon red wings for half an hour. So in the end it did not go all the way.
We made a after-jam version, added more tutorials about genes, slightly increased the chance of getting the dragon you want, and fixed some spelling mistakes. You can download the origin jam version on the same itch Page.
Very cool concept but I felt the economy is very unforgiving and doesn't leave room or time to experiment. The dragons sell for very little and time moves fast so its hard to bounce back once money is law .
That was pretty cool! The DNA stuff went way over my head but I was able to finish it anyway with some persistence (I appreciate that the game lets me keep playing after going bankrupt). Seems like it would be a useful game for teaching kids biology or something!
There's some real promise here, you should definitely keep working on it! I'm amazed you got all this done inside 72 hours. If I had one complaint, it's that the explanation of the genetics system was a bit too dense and I didn't really take it in - that's probably more on me than your game though!
Very nice game with cute graphics and a well polished gameplay, with everything well explained. I would have liked the king to have 5 different requests rather than asking 5 times for the same kind of dragon, which ends up being easy once you've managed to get the first one. Anyway, it's quite an addictive chill game, and now I'm trying to create the 'perfect' dragon that has full lowercase genes.

Love the fantastic art style and the nice mechanism. Great work!
Maybe its a life simulator
