Ludum Dare 50 Entry - "Delay The Inevitable"

Okay so this is wayyy wayy far from complete, it's been a long while since I've made anything in Unity and I totally underestimated having to learn everything from scratch... So somehow have ended up with next to no gameplay at all. 😭 Hope you enjoy the nice artwork and music at least! 💛

Here was the gameplay plan:


You're a little hedgehog 🦔 attempting to beat hibernation by keeping warm and well fed. You collect firewood to keep a fire burning in your hut, so you can top up your warmth when you're done for the day, collecting food along the way in the form of berries, worms, millipedes and nuts. You also had the option to collect hats to slow down your rate of lose of heat. As the days progress, winter gets closer and it therefore gets colder, making you lose warmth much faster. A leaderboard would track the furthest days you got to.

WASD / Arrow keys for movement
(yet to be implemented) - Space for collecting items and interacting with objects

Ahh its such a shame that you didn't get a chance to put gameplay in, because these visuals are amazing! I absolutely adore the hand-painted style and chill vibes music. Great job on what you did get done, and next time I'm sure you'll get it done in time!

Take what you've learnt here and figure Unity out a bit more until next time and you'll make something fun!
I think it's really nice how you've seemingly used an actual painting on canvas for the background. I've wanted to try something like that myself. It has a nice and cosy feel too, as does the music!

add exe on itch.io some time the webplayer crash easily

Very cute art and cool music, the gameplay could use a bit more to make it more interesting. One thing I noticed is that the days counter keeps on going after the game ended :)

Would love to have seen this fleshed out a bit. The art style was just wonderful, and I think the simple exploration gameplay matched it perfectly. With some more mechanics and depth, this would have been fantastic! Still a good attempt though so well done!

Nice country-ish music with the cuteness moode. Wanted to smoke a cigar to it. Cheers to more warmth and less waiting for the better season! Thanks for the entry!

@allas ah you're right i'll get on a little fix for that! Thanks!

@arachnid56 I spent so long on setting everything up, I wanted to add a lot more mechanics like taking things back into your base and chilling for the evening, building things etc but that's way too large a scope i realise now!

@ardorugus Hahah i love that, please feel free to whip out the game when you want to unwind with a cigar :p

The visuals are very endearing, I am quite a fan of the paper technique! As you said yourself, there is hardly any gameplay. To get the game going along though I would first make the hedgehog a lot faster and add a more expressive animation!

The art is adorable, and the background music is good (though it could get repetitive, I imagine). I actually really like the "canvas" background - makes it look like the whole game takes place on an oil painting. Great concept, too bad you didn't finish it.

The artwork for this game is absolutely adorable, I love it. I also really like the effect the texture of the paper gives to the ground. I also like the music, although I feel it'd suit better if it looped more cleanly
