Ludum Dare #50compo
Hydra
You are the last human survivor of an alien invasion. You
have fled Earth in your spaceship and are being pursued by
the swarming drones. While navigating an asteroid field,
your ship was hit, destroying your main engine. You have
only your thrusters left and can no longer run.
Trapped in the asteroid field, you make your last stand.
Each drone you destroy makes more appear like the heads of
the mythical Hydra. You can't win, but you can do as much
damage as possible before you go.
Left/Right, A/D - Rotate ship
Up, W - Forward thruster
Down, S - Reverse thruster
Space, Z - Fire (hold for autofire)
Tab, J, X - Drop Bomb
Enter - Pause/Resume
Controllers may also be supported
The game was written in C++ using SDL2 and my game framework gam along with entt.
The music was made with my Piano, Arturia Drumbrute, and modular synthesizer. It was arranged and mixed in Ardour.

The game is funny to play, the graphics and the music reminds me a lot of Battlezone and other epic games for 80s. Good job! :v:
Cool game with really neat graphics. You managed to get an impressive amount of stuff on screen! The particle effects in particular were quite nice.
Art and music are fine and work well with the game.
Great job for using sdl2 in a jam, you must like pain.
I think the graphics and audio were good and enhanced the game.
The controls functioned different than I expected for a space game. Turning and acceleration felt more like a car. That seemed to change things up in how you navigate the screen.
I respect the pain of C++ and SDL2 and getting it built for web too. Nice job on that front.
All around I like the game. Great job making it in 48 hours!
Overall, very well done, and getting this done using C++/SDL2 on a game jam is seriously impressive!
