Simple game made with the engine I'm working on. Didn't really get to play test and the resources are kinda useless in the game... but still pretty fun :)
thanks for the feedback! I haven't done many of these game jams and haven't figured out how to manage the time. I was kinda planning as I went which I think was a mistake because you see some of the ideas are incomplete. also the engine im making is missing lots of features which slowed me down when I had to add stuff just to get a concept done.
if anyone else plays, please post any ideas that would improve this 'simulation' since it's kinda not a full game yet.
Pretty fun! I figured out that the sun and water helps sustain newly planted trees. I was expecting those trees to eventually turn into forests but that didn't seem to be the case. So I used them as blockers from my actual forest being cut down. Great concept! Would love to see the player try to regrow the forest quicker than the enemies can cut the forest down
Very very different ideas going on here. I'll see If I can make some game-play suggestions:
1. Definitely needs waves of the lumberjacks. Like, they only work during the day, and you can continue to work at night, but they don't start arriving for the first 3 days, and only one to start day one. 2. During that night, you can use the sun's to help your saplings grow bigger to survive the onslaught better, rather than a health bar. 3. You also need to water your trees to help them grow larger, again no water health bar, just a "fill it up and they grow" kind of thing. 4. The hearts are to repair said trees and your forests health. 5. The lumberjacks get stronger in number because they carry the lumber back home and build larger homes and so the population grows.... 6. The theme is about how humans somehow inevitably destroy the environment (I am not in this camp, but it's a good theme) 7. Longer lanes! at least twice as tall 8. Tree health is separate from sun and water. 9. Music! 10. Traps! 11. Other enemies than lumberjacks, maybe they upgrade to chainsaws or something, but you can also upgrade your trees or invest in different tree types that are resistant or need less water, etc.
@exevirus all Great suggestions! thanks so much for taking the time and writing such a detailed and kind review. I will think on all those things when I go back to improve the game. thanks again! and I wish I could have included that music from the video (copyright...) or ANY music, but I didn't have time to make some music.
I'm not really sure what I was supposed to do, I just kept putting the trees in front of the enemies and somehow got to 140 seconds. Not that bad tho, since, as you say, you haven't done many jams before

I'll play Balloon Bash sometime soon.
