Deimos Station

It is the year 2155. A group of scientists have discovered an alien artifact and are experimenting on it on board Deimos Station, a space station in orbit around Mars. Their latest experiment resulted in disaster when a gateway to a higher plane of existence was opened, and it's inhabitants were not happy. All of the scientists were killed. All but you. Equipped with only the alien artifact, can you survive aboard Deimos Station?

Rules

* Claim all objective points. There is a list in the bottom-left corner.
* Hide from the entities. They can see you in the light, and can feel the artifact's light on them.
* The station is losing power, and the lights turn off every 10 seconds. Use this to your advantage.
* The entities have their own artifacts. Look for their light to avoid them.

Controls

* WASD to Move
* Left Click to focus the Artifact's light
* Right Click to conceal the Artifact's light
* E to claim an objective while looking at it

Retrospective

This was my first Ludum Dare in a while, and I am pretty happy with how it went. Deimos Station is a stealth horror game where you try to evade a group of mysterious entities aboard a space station while trying to reach all of the objectives. The theme of 'Every 10 Seconds' was incorporated into the station's lighting, where every 10 seconds, the station's lights turn on or off. While the lights are on, it is easier to see where you are going and where the objectives are, but it is also easier for the entities to find you. While it is dark, it is easier to hide but harder to make progress.

What I Liked

All in all, I am happy with the state of my game. This was my first game jam in a while, and only my second attempt at a 3D game in general, let alone with a time crunch. I also have never worked on game AI like this before, but I am happy with how the entities behave when searching for the player. The game also has a good options menu, with mouse sensitivity, a brightness slider, difficulty adjustment, and an option to make the objectives glow in the dark.

What I Didn't Like

With that being said, there are some things I am disappointed in. I unfortunately didn't have enough time to replace the placeholder assets with actual artwork and I had an idea for an additional goal after collecting all of the objectives, where you would have to travel to the Reactor to set the station's self-destruct then travel back to Admin to escape on a shuttle. As it is, the game's ending is quite abrupt and very unfinished. I also would have liked to add the lore into the game itself, but despite these issues, I am still very proud of what I was able to accomplish.
