miam is a cooking game in which you have to make burgers by pressing the letters corresponding to the ingredients.
However, the chef keeps changing his mind and changes the menu every 10 seconds!

Minor spoilers below! The key corresponding to an ingredient is written around brackets `[]`.

- Title screen:
- [c] Classic mode (start with a basic menu)
- [d] Madness mode (start with a full menu and less time to prepare burgers)
- [u] Mute / unmute the music
- Cooking screen:
- The key associated with each ingredient is shown in the menu on the left of the screen (and also on this page)
- [space] / [enter] Send the order
- [backspace] Remove placed ingredients
- Game over screen:
- [m] / [i] / [a] / [m] Return to title

Great graphics, great music. really hard game, it seems I never had time to look at the updated menu/ingredients and memorize the keys. I guess I have to play a few more times lol

i really want to like this game because it's clearly very well made, really polished, and i love the music, but it was way too hard for me even getting past the first couple of burgers. i think this game could be a very enjoyable experience if it was better balanced, but great job on the whole thing !!

I really like this game. Such a creative idea. Really clever linking each ingredient to a key, it makes the gameplay really fun and hectic. The music is great too. Nice job!

This was a very creative take on the theme. It has a bit of a learning curve, but once I got the hang of it I found myself having a lot of fun. I will say once I got to the point where I didn't need to look at the menu anymore, it didn't feel like the changing menu was relevant. Overall very well done!

The concept is great but damn I'm so bad at this game! The aesthetics, the little music, the sound effects, everything goes very well together, good job =D

This game is fantastic! I loved the concept, the gameplay and the graphics. I really enjoyed it. I agree on the balancing. One comment: if you modify stuff, even if they are small bug fixes or UX improvements, you should disclose it and list it on this page. Thanks! Good job!

@jose-bonilla Thank you! I added a changelog section with a link to the commit.

I knew that all this time playing Cook Serve Delicious would end up useful! This game is very fun and satisfying to play. Only thing is that maybe the cancel key should just remove the last placed ingredient instead of making you restart the entire burger, it's making it almost impossible to recover from a failed ingredient on the more complex ones :/

Graphics and musics/SFX go very well with the game!

First, glad I'm not the only one with a burger theme. It is great to see how another person envisions a similar premise.

The music, sounds, and pixel aesthetic is charming. Their is a wonderful personality to the characters and the ingredients. The gameplay clicks easily, and the separate modes adds a lot to the replay-ability of this. Your team did an amazing job with this. I can easily see myself coming back to play this again.

I like the art, the sound, the theme, and the mood. But these "cook, serve, whatever" games always are too difficult for me!

I love typing games, except that since I'm not a native English speaker, I'm very unfamiliar with the menu items. It would be nice if there were images on the menu

Super fun!! It kind of reminds me of those typing games to learn how to type faster when I was learning the buttons for each ingredient. But by the second go-around I think I got it! Very funny customer dialogue when I miss an order XD

Pretty fun game! I did not really understand how the chef changing the ingredients list was affecting the game.

Love the graphics, well done!

Pretty fun game ! I had some trouble with somme font however, like I always wanted to press *B* for the eggs instead of *E* because I couldn't differentiate both :S

I got to 1559 before I got frustrated with having to remember too much stuff. xD
It was chaos and I loved it.
But when I couldn't figure out what bacon was the shortcut for I baiiiiiiiiiiiled.

The music was great, the visuals were great if sometimes leaving me feeling a bit confused when new things popped up (I thought the mayo was melted cheese for a bit till the menu board told me otherwise).

I genuinely loved how you managed the menu board - even if it did end up leaving me confused. If I wasn't so tired I would have kept going on for as long as possible.

Loved it, thank you.

It was pretty fun. I think I'm in the same boat where some of the keys made you think of different things. Perhaps limiting or naming things in the letters that don't overlap (B- buns, A- bacon?, and probably why the S- patty is "steak" and not "beef"?). I played another burger maker game here and you had to click on things but the naming convention was different cause of region I guess? I thought I'd do better here but it's almost the same.

I also thought "backspace" removed a single ingredient as opposed to the whole burger, but I guess that's part of the challenge. I like the look of everything and the Chef changing ingredients to make it so you almost have to throw out a burger if that ingredient is gone is an interesting mechanic. Great job overall!

Ahhh this game is cute! I love cooking games and I think this one was very enjoyable to play! Reminded me a lot of Cook, Serve, Delicious! I lost my first run because I couldn't read which letter "egg" was (it was "e"). I'll try to get some good scores

Great entry, congratulations. I enjoyed the concept, it's fun to play, the art is great, fits the theme. Overall, a very high score.

Some thoughts:
- I love how the worker writes on the left board
- It's very hard to keep the names of every ingredient. The difficulty curve goes too fast for my taste

I managed to get a decent score i think, although i don't really know what that font says! The game was very well made. I have issue with somee of the native keys for some words, like "N" for mushrooms or "A" for bacon or "S" for steak. I probably would've used "M" for mushrooms and "H" for *ham*burger haha. Good stuff tho!
LDJam user 23762316 Oct 2022, 15:46
My only complaint is that the letter "e" was difficult to read. I thought it was a "B" but eventually realized I was wrong. After that everything clicked. Sometimes it was tough to remember the key bindings for an ingredient, but that's also what makes it more satisfying when you do remember them and get into a flow. It was a little punishing that backspace clears the plate rather than removing the last ingredient. But that's up to you how difficult you want the game to feel.

Overall this was really fun and a well scoped game jam game. After one playthrough I understood 90% of the game. After the second I had learned the rest. And then I got this sick high score!

EDIT: I played madness mode. Let me know if someone beats my score otherwise I'm hanging up my apron for now.

Took me a while to get used to the combinations - keys and "material". But i really enjoyed this game. My personal best score was something like 3000, but took me a while to get there.

Very nice game! Now I am hungry...
It takes a bit time to get into which key is which, maybe a mouse-click control would be a nice addition...

Well done!
bobridze20 Oct 2022, 12:31
Good gameplay. But I did not immediately understand that in order to give the burger it was necessary to press "enter". And it was not always clear to me which key to press to put this or that ingredient. In general, the game is pleasant and exciting. Great work!

very fast-paced and requires typing way faster than I can, but I managed to get a chain of 2 burgers. Yay!

Love the art style

Yea, this is top notch. It's pretty much a full finished web game. Great work for 72 hours. Props to whoever did the graphics and audio. And I had no bugs or glitches so big props to the programmer as well  Not really got anything constructive to add as it's perfectly fine as is.

Good stuff :8ball:

Love this game! Reminded me of my LD46 game.
Great job on the pixel ingredients and the audio matching them. Got a score of 3995
Only critique would be the inclusion of the theme as you start with more than 10 seconds and decrese the time to increase difficulty
yopox
yopoxauthor20 Oct 2022, 17:39
@jaknak72 The chief always appears every 10 seconds, the time you have to complete the order is different and gets shorter with each order :)

Thanks everyone for the nice words!

Got 1425 second try!
Great polish and amazing feeling when completing a tall burger,
but felt a bit to punishing when you have missed like one ingredient early but did the rest correctly,
so you have no incentive to complete the burger correctly one you did one mistake

Oh waw it gets difficult pretty quickly! Maybe having new ingredients being added to the board after the player has finished some simple commands. Or else the game gets hard even for players who didn't managed to finish a simple burger. Good work, now I'm hungry!
