a farmer and his fields, bound together

A reminder that farming is not as fun as in Stardew Valley but a hard work poorly recognized and often poorly rewarded in real life. Not a fun game but more probably a more realistic game.

Damn, I am surely not made for this kind of work. I quit after year 1 :p

Well, this is both hilarious and sad. I tapped out in year 2!

What a game! Had to stop before I pull a tendon :D Quite a good idea to use the controlls that way, that being said: super hard on the player. It would have been a bit more forgiving, if you could move a little easier. Apart from that: Well done indeed!

Not my kind of game. Completed one level and went from year 1 to 2. Nothing happened.
Nice graphics though.

Some possible improvements:
- some change between the levels to motivate
- As a german gamer, Z is one of the most horrible buttons you could choose. Got cramps. Better X and M (farther away) or closer together, X and C e.g.

@skopfy Thanks for the advice! I was planning on adding some treasure u could find on different levels but there was no time. Maybe in a update in the future!
And just looked into German keyboard layout and I see what u mean. Sadly the key bindings is fixed by the game engine itself (it's called PICO-8) so I can't change it freely. But it provides some alternative options: c & v as well as n & m. You can choose and combine what u like.

@dawnreaver Glad you like it! But the idea of the game is to simulate the farmer's repetitve physical work, and it is usually not that forgiving, so...:)

I like games with weird controls and found the game quite relaxing actually :smile:

This game looks simple but conveys deep ideas. Controls were original and coherent with the concept.

I love how Pico-8 makes the games feel properly retro. Nice graphics and sounds. This surely makes me feel how tedious farming is. One full year was enough, my wrist hurts, I want to go back to the office, farming is not for me! I wonder whether someone went through all 60 years, those would need some extra price :)

I get the message of boring repetitive work but there's no need to make the control terrible. Even if controls were simpler and time passes faster, the message could be conveyed.

I see what you mean and I kinda agree with you to some extent...But in my opinion, making the controls like this will draw the attention and porvoke the thinking process of the players in the first place - why is it like this? why is it so hard, boring and tedious? what does it have to do with farming? - and thus build up a closer internal connection with the topic of the game. I mean, even if you just put a simple sentence in a game and that's all, the player will still get the message. What I wanna try out is how I could do this in a more effective and powerful way. This is merely my personal understanding. Thanks for sharing ur thoughts, it really made me look back on the game in a new way!

Nailed the theme and the controls are a good metaphor of the physical labor that goes into harvest.

I love seeing Pico-8 games, such a fascinating fantasy console! Would love to learn how to develop for it one day. Anyway, about the game, honestly was pretty fun! Amazing job!

Great example of using gameplay to convey a theme. I felt like the amount of years I was able to complete would reflect on my character. The graphical presentation also establishes a very contained mood that reinforces the mundanity of forced repetitive labor. Awesome job!
