Carbs vs. Protein - A Scrote Jenkins Story

Genre: Tower Defense, Survival
Platform: Web (itch.io)

Overview

Carbs vs. Protein - A Scrote Jenkins Story is a survival tower defense game where you defend your meat castle against waves of enemies. You strategically place castle tiles, turrets, and deploy scrotes to repair walls as you gather resources by defeating enemies. The aim is simple: survive for as long as possible while managing your resources, fending off enemies, and repairing your castle walls before they fall and you lose the game.

Gameplay

Objective:

- Survive: Build, defend, and repair your castle while enemies spawn and attempt to destroy your walls.

Core Mechanics:

- Enemy Spawners: Spawners appear randomly on the map and begin spawning enemies only after you've placed your first castle tile.
- Castle Tiles: Once a meat castle tile is placed, you can build turrets and scrotes to defend and repair your base.
- Resources: Manage three key resources gained by killing enemies:
- Meat: Used to build castle tiles.
- Skin: Used to repair castle walls.
- Bones: Used to construct turrets.
- Turrets: Place turrets to automatically attack enemies and prevent them from reaching your castle.
- Scrotes: Deploy scrotes inside the castle walls to assist in repairing damaged tiles.
- Survival: If any wall tile's health reaches zero, you lose the game.

Controls:

- WASD / Arrow Keys: Move the camera around the map.
- Mouse: Select tiles and place them on the map.
- Toolbar: Located at the bottom of the screen, use it to select and build:
- Castle Tile: Build meat castle walls. (Hotkey 2)
- Turret Tile: Build turrets inside the castle walls to defend against enemies. (Hotkey 3)
- Scrote Tile: Deploy scrotes for repairs. (Hotkey 1)
- Esc: Pause the game.

How to Play

1. Starting the Game:

- Upon starting the game, click the Start button to begin.
- Enemy spawners will randomly appear on the map but will not spawn enemies until you place your first castle tile.

2. Building Your Castle:

- Use the toolbar at the bottom of the screen to place a Meat Castle Tile. This is your first defense structure.
- Once the meat castle tile is placed, you can:
- Build Turrets: Select the Turret Tile from the toolbar to place turrets that will automatically attack enemies.
- Deploy Scrotes: Select the Scrote Tile to deploy scrotes that will repair damaged castle walls.

3. Defending Against Enemies:

- As enemies spawn, they will attempt to attack and destroy the castle walls. Each enemy has a visible health bar, and your turrets will automatically target and damage them.
- If an enemy reaches your castle walls, they will start attacking it. Each wall tile has its own health bar, and if any tile's health depletes entirely, you lose the game.

4. Managing Resources:

- Meat: Required for building new castle tiles.
- Skin: Needed for repairing damaged walls.
- Bones: Required to build new turrets.
- Resources are collected by defeating enemies, and can be spent to build and repair your structures.

5. Losing the Game:

- The game ends when any wall tile's health reaches zero. Protect your walls and make use of scrotes to keep them repaired!

Carbs vs. Protein: A Scrote Jenkins Story" is a fun and creative twist on tower defense. Defending a meat castle with turrets and little helpers is both funny and challenging. It’s easy to get into, and the resource management keeps things interesting. Great job on making such an entertaining game, well done to the team!

I was not prepared for the AI generated music LMAO (sorry if I am wrong). Seems to be new trend as I have already come across few games with AI generated music.

Fun game and suprisingly playable! Behind the humor there is actually solid game!

The music... I was not ready for entire themed songs about building and defending a marvellous meat fortress, but it certainly got me in the right frame of mind to fight off those vile meat and veggie hating critters.

Interesting usage of the towers to create building space also being your objective to defend. I think performance becomes a bit of an issue with lots of stuff though.

Amazing music, but shooting sounds too loud :(

you've successfully murdered my ear drums

The pacing is way off because the game quickly became a matter of spamming towers and turrets. I never felt like I had to manage any resource other than my mental health while playing this game.

I think the game would be better if you had to upgrade your turrets and houses instead of just spamming more of them.

Was kind of lost, and died rather quickly

I like Carbs but they may cause fat. Music is awesome, and when play this game feels like it's not so gamejam game, some kind of humor and large map.

But as a tower defense game, I think they are lacking some kind of strategy and feels no pressure when defense the large waves of enemies.

This is such a fever dream, but in a great way. Pure chaos, but a really solid TD implementation for the timeframe.

The performance is so much better than I was expecting. Totally a minor point, but with these short jams it can be a problem with lots of units / projectiles, but everything ran great!

The art is great. AI music is always going to be a contentious one, even with opting out of the rating, but I did find the lyrics to be really funny.

Scrote Jenkins needs a Brotein Fart area-denial ability that can clear large spaces of all living things.

Nice work.

Would benefit from some sort of explanation of what the resources top left do in-game - how much is required to build/repair, etc. Music is decent and a nice touch but the AI-ness definitely sticks out! Also the enemies are a bit toooo tiny for me to actually see them - same with the healthbars of the towers you put down.

Well done

Loved the music playing while setting up a big base with tons of turrets! It would be interesting if there were waves that made it so some planning was involved, but I enjoyed the concept! Keep jamming!

A solid and well fleshed out tower defence game! Could have been more interesting with some progression and upgrades, though. Music is on spot.
