Story

An elderly mushroom enthusiast is gathering mushrooms for her collection of special mushrooms. As she ventures deeper into the woods, something goes wrong and grandma finds herself in the gloomy parts of the forest with scary creatures. The player is enchanted by mystical forces of the forest and is forced to appease them before she is transformed into a part of the forest.

The game draws its inspiration from Finnish folklore. Metsänpeitto (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈmetsæmˌpei̯tːo]) or in English “covered by forest” means that the forest could hide or imprison people and they would be invisible to those who went looking for them.

I can't seem to pickup the mushrooms at the beginning? i can pickup the flowers no problem but the mushrooms just don't get picked up. I do absolutely love the style and audio and i chuckled when i went to pick the flowers up.

Edit: It seems to be a problem with the LD embedded one, the game through the link does work properly!

Thanks for the comments! The "flowers" are actually mushrooms too, maybe we should have been clearer with the design. 😂

this art is amazing, obviously took a lot of effort to get all the assets for the game, i will say Grandma picking things up did catch me off guard in a bit of humor. it seems scarlet rot follows me in a few games.

over all fun experience, gameplay left a little to be desired, but the theme music and art add to the overall feel massively. it almost felt Fran Bow esc or like Miss Fortune in vibe.
granny could have used as much art love as the rest of the game as she stands out form the very detailed background

over all really good game with so much style

When I click the credits button in the main menu I have to refresh the page to get back to the main menu :-)

Couldn't the old lady stoop over in the other direction? That is a funny gimmick :-)

The art is really cool, you got a lot done in 72 hours, impressive!

At first it was not very obvious to me why I died, I had to figure out that I needed to let the creatures follow me, then hide until they were gone. But I got the end eventually.

Overall a really cool game, great job, good work!

That was a very fun experiece, I must say.
I liked the crepy vibe on it.

Really loved the art style! Super detailed and cool, with music and sound that add a lot to the mood. I had a big laugh gathering the first mushroom lol. Embedded version couldn't let me advance past the circle of musrooms, but fullscreen version works fine! Really funny + creepy = great game! Thank you for the experience!

@kupnu4 There was a bug in the embedded version at first but we fixed it already on tuesday.

I tried the embedded version right now and could get to second level just fine :thinking: ...there is a possibility of failure there though as the wisp has to hit the player to continue, if that somehow fails you softlock there.

Anyways, thank you for the review. Our team worked real hard for the game. Its nice to hear you liked it!

1) I didn't find a way how to exit credits (had to realod the web page);
2) In Settings is 'Keybinds' but no way to select it or click on it;
3) When I clicked on 'Start' for the first time it looked like there is a deadlock. Actual game was entered roughly 15 seconds after I clicked on the 'Start' button (played in Firefox on old MacBook Pro 2014);
4) There is "glowing yellow sphere" around the player which prevented me to be able to read "[Down]" in "[Down] to Pick Up" (white text on yellow background...).

Oh, this has great atmosphere! Like the others have said, first time picking something up caught me off guard... :-D The logic was a bit unclear, i.e. why I kept dying even though I managed to avoid the creatures. But perhaps I got it now from the other comments. Anyway, I especially enjoyed the music that was a big part of the atmosphere, and having a story behind the game definitely adds to its charm. Good job!

This game is incredible. I have no idea how you all put this together. Perfect as a Halloween theme and perfect for the Collector theme. Perfect game! I gave it 5/5s across the board. =)

But in any case, great work! This is now the second game this LD that has made me laugh out loud :laughing:

Loved the ambiance! One thing that bothered me a bit though is the text animation, think it would have been easier to read without the layout readjusting at every letter appearing (not sure if my explanations are clear).

Thanks! ...and yep, I also wasn't sure if the center aligntment of text was the correct choice. It made the text creation a bit jumpy. But we decided to go with it and didn't change it while developing.

Maybe we try different kind of texts in the next game. If we make texts at all.

Thanks for the fun experience. It was really fun playing this game. I didn't quite expect to see a grandma's butt, haha.

I really enjoyed the story, the atmosphere, the art, the sounds, and the mechanics. The game is addictive.
But I still haven't figured out how I can die, other than being caught in the fire. I'm slowly becoming covered in moss, but why?
Overall, I really enjoyed the game. Good luck at the jam!

I like this game. The atmosphere is great. It took me a while to figure out what I needed to do. The music is very special and very pleasant to listen to.
