About

Ever play old games on a old TV, but have to resort to RF?
In this game, you play a game WITHIN the game, and you must deal with the difficulties of your TV's RF connection being
complete crap.

Don't worry, that's the only level of bullcrap you'll need to deal with, I hope.

NO AI was used in the creation of this Jam Entry.

I pushed out a minor bugfix, there seemed to be a random crash that could sometimes happen, so I tightened the file loading and audio playback just a little bit to try to curb it; I didn't touch the gameplay at all.
Still has the same features, levels, gameplay, etc. as the base jam, it just wont randomly crash now, I think.

Making the TV's dodgy RF connection part of the challenge is a clever take on Old Tech! I love the idea of having to wrestle with the television as well as the game inside it.

Same as Avi I right away got immersed into the fact that I wanted to smack or grab the computer. Maybe it could use hints on understanding of the controls but that also worked great with feeling the aggression.

Great concept! The dialtone gets annoying, but I love smacking the tv as a mechanic and the "choose your difficulty" of just playing through the horrible static

Haha yeah I feel that, cuz it definitely helps the vibe, it just becomes a little much over time

Java applet?! Now thats what I call old tech 😂

Super janky, but kinda fun. Jump sound needs work

The screen effect was maybe a little headache inducing, but I thought it was interesting the way I was forced to put up with the effect as I had a limited amount of times I could fix it.

The platformer itself is very trollish, a lot of deadends and jumps that make you think. Though needing to repeat sections was a little tedious I had fun with what there was.

@Boxofcuriosity it was much worse in earlier versions, the noise actually was toned down a bit; though the annoyance is part of the challenge of the thing anyways in my opinion.

Also yeah I did try making it a bit trollish, was inspired by this old DSiWare game I played called 10 Second Run, hell, I was planning to give the player ~25ish seconds to beat each level, else the scrolling would speed up; decided not to, as that'd be too cruel I think.

Might (assuming I resume the game post-jam) add it as a mode though.

@danwhiffing Java is just neat, plus it's decently portable in cases like mine, where I just used core Java 1.1+ (I thought I was using 1.0 only, but I found that some APIs I used were 1.1+, annoyingly); plus it's a excuse to fit "Retro Tech" a bit more than I am already doing, given the whole gimmick of the project.

Love the gimmick! Took me back to the days when I downloaded early java games on my phone

If only we could go back right after seeing the spikes, but oh well, it makes you wonder whether the coins on some routes are a trap

Looks like you used old tech to create a game about old tech LOL. The idea and graphics are fantastic, but not a big fan of the dead end level design. It's truly frustrating when I walk into a dead end and can not go back. Other than that, great game and the most interesting idea I've seen so far.

Loved this one, took me back to childhood. Still wish that was a beer though ;)
