Ludum Dare #60compo
Ancient Tech
A strategy/incrementalgame where your goal is to research all the techs. Has population management and building construction. I probably chose a bit too complicated mechanics for this one..

rebuilding civilisation from memory with a useless phone is a fun premise, and the tech tree is way bigger than i expected for a compo. hard to tell early on how fast research is coming in, a progress bar on the current research would help

@mikeware Thanks, I should have made it clearer that you can accrue resources manually by clicking where it says collect X. More tooltips would have been good or even a help button that you can mouse over things with to get more information. Sorry to hear that your village perished I'm sure they just decided to leave you be.
@gevernus Thanks! I did find myself over scoping on what kind of game I wanted to attach my tech tree to, there is an equally long list of unlockable resources and buildings. The visuals are rather plain but I didn't feel like I could do much else in the time left after I'd implemented the mechanics, same with sound. A progress bar sounds like a good idea, it could be a lightbulb that lights up :)

Loved it. Some UI QoL missing, mostly knowing which buildings you already had, but for such a short game, not really mandatory.
Felt like A Dark Room mashed up with Civilization.

Interesting, I liked exploring the tech tree. Some tech explanations tooltips were missing! I'm still wondering what religion is for ^^

Fun concept, would've loved to see the settlement building mechanics fleshed out a bit more. It felt like most of the tasks I could assign workers to by the end didn't really affect the gameplay. My score was 6100.

The idea for this game was a really good spin on the theme. I quite enjoyed playing it. I don't think I fully understood what I was doing all the time (like why I was unlocking things and what purpose each resource had), but I somehow managed to bring society into a new age of enlightenment. The feel of the game would have benefitted from some music and UI sounds, but overall, I thought it was fun!

@jesus-gonzalez Thank you! An incremental version of Civilization was exactly what I was going for. Yes a total of what buildings you had already placed down would have been good, a tooltip for hovering over a placed building would have been good as well.
@sevansevan I'm glad you liked the tech tree as I kind of designed the rest of the game around it :) As for why some tech tooltips were missing well, I might not have thought of something to unlock with them... For all we know the people might just really like cooking, archery and religion.
@shimmerscale Yeah I wasn't quite sure what to do with the settlement building and having a map for it was rather tacked on. There were lots of different foodstuffs as I had planned for them to affect a happiness mechanic. I also wanted tools to affect production but didn't work out how to implement it. Congrats on the score!
@human-writes-code Thank you :D It could have done with more guidance of what various parts of the interface did, I clean forgot to put tooltips on resources saying what they required and did. Towards the end I considered adding sound effects but my basic beeps and boops seemed more annoying than anything, I should try more advanced sound stuff.

Loved it! I beat it in 271s and scored 6600. It was fun to place stuff on the map, that really was a nice addition. I think everything could have used more explanation, like what does a building do, how much do things cost, etc. I figured out what was going on pretty quickly an idle game and aoe enjoyer, but without that framework it couldve been a bit confusing. Overall great work!

Nice entry 👍 like others ... I struggled with the fact that I had to build the house first... not too long - so it did not take away from the experience.
Really good job on this one.
A bit "more UI" would have helped me - I kinda forgot the color codes when building ... so I didn't know exactly what I had. Minor thing tho.

This does throw me back, these types of research sim games are always fun. Good job! My village perished...
