DEVLOG

This is my first time doing the compo! 2 years into game dev, the contrast with my first 48h jam is pretty amusing https://acartlidge.itch.io/dudes-rock .

I had a blast making a weirdo sci fi walking simulator, throwing every trope I love at it. My big inspirations were Aniara and Event Horizon, both bangers. I also spent >50% of my time making the cool spaceship interior, no regrets.

The plumbing of the game is incredibly simple, my the end of night 1 I had the main bits I needed: A player, a door, things to pick up that unlock said door. Then it was just about building a sick spaceship and writing a story. I don't think I've done anything super clever or groundbreaking but I hope people have a fun time.

For the theme, I tried to 3x it. First I thought ancient technology was a neat angle, with a twist being that this was future old tech (the game is in the distant future, so the "old tech" is still from the near future). Then I did it in a low poly PSX style. And finally, I thought it'd be neat to force players to get a piece of paper for all the codes and stuff. Im sure most people will just jot it down in a text editor, but it was worth a shot!

Cool game! the progression felt natural and not punishing and the story is pretty good
it could use some music/ambience obviously but it was fine without

Hi, i really enjoyed the game, wish it had some music and had movement sounds. The games freezes from time to time for a short period, door sound is hard on ears. Also guest room consoles are avaliable for use through walls. Hope that helps, good job!

I like the vibe.

Manually taking notes does fit the theme in a roundabout way, but I don't think a game-side log book that at least let you check old entries without going back to the computer would be amiss.

Pretty cool to this as a compo game and not jam. Nice work!

Cool graphics. I get the note-taking appeal for game designer, but like the comment above I would have really liked to get an in-game logbook of read notes.

Very well done nonetheless.

Great atmosphere and graphics! A as others have mentioned an in-game logbook would be nice, and some more ambient SFXs would help with the feel. I did get a bit of a shock when opening the first door. (very loud). All round very nice work!

I really liked this one. I played to the end and did the right thing. I kinda want to know what happens if I don't do the right thing, but it's a bit too long for me to play through again. Liked the atmosphere, and the audio really added to that. There was some Z fighting in places, but I felt it sort of added to the retro graphics vibe. Enjoyed the story progression. That Miller was a bit of a cad. Great entry 🎱
