An old radar console. Ten waves of incoming signals. Not enough decoders, not enough crews — and some of the signals aren't even real.
You are the last operator of BASE 07. Contact with headquarters is lost, and the only thing standing between the base and the enemy is a worn-out military console from another era.
Every wave: - LOCK targets on the radar as the sweep passes over them - DECODE what matters: is it an AIR or GROUND attack — or just a FALSE echo? - ASSIGN your few defense orders: AA, GROUND or UNIVERSAL - CONFIRM before the clock runs out, then read the damage report on the terminal
You can't defend everything. Decide which threats are worth your decodes and your orders — and keep the base alive for 10 waves.
And don't trust the old hardware too much!
How to play - Mouse only, plays in the browser - The tutorial is built into the first waves - One run takes about 5–10 minutes
Tools: Unity, Aseprite, Audacity, bfxr, Claude Code for code
The concept and the UI are very nice. The theme for "old tech" is clearly in. It misses a bit of sound in the background (music or background sound, I don't know). I didn't succeed in reaching the end. I don't understand how to use my orders well, I think.
It feels like there’s room to grow here. For example, upgrades between waves could be a nice way to expand the game if you decide to keep working on it after the jam.
@tweekus Thanks! I was actually thinking about ways to make the waves more varied, but ran out of time to flesh it out. Upgrades between waves sound great!
Really good interpretation of the theme. The game has a very pleasant visual style and an easy to understand rock paper scissors mechanic, but it feels a bit too difficult. I couldn't reliably determine the optimal defensive choice and mostly ended up guessing. By wave 10, all enemies have high attack power, making it difficult to figure out which defensive options are safe to choose. The game could also use some background music. That said, I really liked the idea
I also like the color of your itch page ahhah. The overall UI style really attracts me. I really like how the words are typed out, and how the "Top Secret" sheet pops up. Might be better if the game has a bgm, but maybe this quiet, focused view on the radar tech conveys the atmosphere just as intended. Also, seems like the radar "hitting" area is the brightest green. I wonder what the following three-colored fading area mean, cause there seems not to be a punishment for hitting not exactly at the intended place, outside of wasting a bit of time. Overall very interesting to play!
Love the look of this! The green radar and chunky buttons really sell the old military console. Having to work out which blips are real with only a few decodes is a cool idea. Nice work!
@mediandev Thanks for playing all the way to wave 10 and for the honest feedback! It’s actually less about guessing than it looks. Start with the strongest signal and decode its VALID. If it’s real, decode the type and put the right defense on it. If it’s FALSE, don’t waste a decode on its type, just move on to the next strongest one and repeat.
@cupofcuppuccino Thanks, glad you liked the itch page and the typing too :) Only the brightest part of the beam can lock targets. The three fading shades behind it are just phosphor afterglow, like on old CRT radars, so they’re purely visual. You’re right that missing only costs time, except after the EMP when locking a fake blip jams LOCK for a moment.
That's an interesting idea; it would be nice to see it in a fully polished game. It would also be nice to have background music, as well as music that plays when an enemy approaches or when there's very little time left.
@z1biks Thanks a lot for the feedback! I’ve actually been thinking about continuing the game after the jam. As for the sound, I was adding it literally in the last hours of the jam, so there was just no time to cover everything.
the radar operator fantasy is so well executed, locking signals on the sweep and deciding whether a blip is a real attack or a false echo is a genuinely tense little loop. the console UI is gorgeous and the old military hardware look fits the theme perfectly. did you ever consider adding background sound, or did you want the silence to feel like an empty base? really polished work.
@perrarancino@vorondesan Thank you so much for playing! I was thinking about adding music, because I felt the game was really missing it without any background sound. Unfortunately I just didn’t have time to make it before the deadline
Game premise is pretty engaging and good amount of instructions put in. Locking targets and decoding them was fun but it was a little bit unclear then if I was correct in tagging them and was there something I could have done better. Great entry!
Lots of good tutorial content in the game, which was very helpful. The visuals, especially the menu interaction is probably my favourite part of the game. The audio that is present is great, but it really misses some BG music to help the intensity and the ambience. Very solid and polished for a compo entry. Great work!
pretty good theme, I've always liked these old style military war sim games, ive wanted to make an arma reforger mod mini game similar to this but with player radio transmissions and helicopters nearby. I feel like I don't quite get enough time during the first few waves. but the figuring out which radar blips to prioritize is interesting.
Is this really winnable? With two orders per wave, one is guaruanted to pass through so taking 1 or 2 damage per wave seems mandatory :) Other than that, great work!
It's some kind of Mastermind, right? But I felt I always lost a little bit of health, could just minimize damage. With only four decriptions and eight options to decode you need to spread them out and best (informed) guess? Intriguing concept!
@notnasiul Thanks for playing! Yes, exactly, you can’t save everything, the goal is to lose as little as possible. My tip is to start with the strongest signal and check VALID first, then decode its type only if it’s real
I like this game.
