Corrupted Cartridge

You’ve found an old game console with a battered-looking cartridge—it appears damaged, but it’s still functional. Out of curiosity, you insert it into the console and start playing.

The first level plays out as expected: you fire in the direction you’re moving, and the enemies are easily defeated.

To advance to the second level, you need to use your mouse to click the "Continue" button.

Once you do, the cursor transforms into a crosshair, and the game truly begins.

The game is very nostalgic, with beautiful graphics and engaging gameplay.

Genuinely excellent.

The graphics and visuals combine to create an extremely convincing arcade aesthetic. I also really enjoyed how the shader got more intense as the game progressed, it really gave the feel the cartridge is becoming more corrupt as time goes on.

The difficulty ramped up nicely. Once I got to level 8 and hit the machine gun I had a ton of fun just letting it rip everywhere.

It was also a really nice touch having death introduce a new persistent effect. It makes every subsequent playthrough feel new and gave this idea that every time I died I was corrupting the cartridge more.

Well... nice little top-down shooting game! I really like the mechanic of both the player and enemies can get perks after a completed level, that's a nice touch to the game.

Great graphics, good sounds, what I found frustrating is the first level having the shooting direction straight to the player's direction, having the mouse available from the very beginning will be waaay better.

Great job!

I really enjoyed the dramatic shift when the game transitioned from the initial level to the main event. The concept of the cartridge slowly becoming corrupted perfectly mirrors the escalating chaos in the gameplay. Fantastic entry!
