DON'T CRASH 95
One installation. A thousand problems.
YOU JUST WANT TO INSTALL GAME.EXE. YOUR COMPUTER HAS OTHER PLANS.
*Made for Ludum Dare 60 | Theme: OLD TECH*
---
WELCOME TO YOUR WORST PC EVER
It's 1995. You've got a brand-new game, a very old computer, and one simple mission: install GAME.EXE to 100% as fast as possible.
Unfortunately, your computer hates you.
The installer wants another floppy disk. Your CD drive needs attention. The CPU is overheating. The internet has disconnected. An administrator popup is literally running away from your mouse. And now the printer is complaining about paper.
Fix the problems, keep the machine alive, and beat your best installation time. Just don't expect the PC to cooperate.
---
IF IT CAN BREAK, IT WILL
This isn't just a fake Windows desktop. You're sitting at a interactive 3D desk with a CRT monitor, a PC tower, floppy disks, a CD-ROM, a keyboard, a printer, and plenty of questionable old technology.
- Handle real hardware: Insert and eject floppy disks, swap CDs, cool the computer, reconnect cables, and interact with your desk.
- Survive ridiculous software: Endless Terms of Service, fake updates, CAPTCHAs, impossible-looking dialogs, disappearing buttons, a painfully slow browser, and more.
- Juggle several disasters at once: Some events stop the installer; others distract you while the temperature rises.
- Every run is different: Randomized problems, surprising combinations, and escalating chaos.
- Speedrun the suffering: Chase your best time.
The only thing you need to remember: Every problem has a solution. Probably.

CONTROLS
MOUSE: Your main weapon against terrible technology
- Left click: Interact, press buttons, pick up items, insert/eject media, and use the computer.
- Double left click: Open desktop icons, including `GAME.EXE`.
- Mouse wheel: Zoom in/out toward the computer. Scroll inside Terms of Service and other scrollable windows when hovering over them.
- Right click: Put down a held object.
- Keyboard: Type in forms, enter passwords, and follow specific on-screen key prompts.
- Click physical devices: Use the tower, fan, drives, printer, and other hardware directly.
TIP: Start by double-clicking `GAME.EXE`, then hit INSTALL. The timer starts when installation begins.

Solid jam experience! Simple, intuitive, and very well executed. Left full ratings!
We’d really appreciate it if you could test out Meow Bomb! too. For an updated experience with a working PC and fixes, check out the alternative build here: https://naiper.itch.io/meow-bomb-by-naiper

his reminded me of how I used to install games as a kid. Nostalgic vibes!

There are so many references and little jokes in here I love it. So many different things to interact with. Also just for reference my favourite dinosaur is Triceratops. I feel like everyone should have one so i'm glad you included that. Such a fun and charming entry. Bit before my time but my first PC was XP but if windows 95 was anything like this I feel like I dodged a bullet.
Great entry, well done!

What a good game ! No notes ! Can't believe you guys managed to do it in such a short time. Well done.
But Windows 95 wasn’t that bad, especially toward the end of its life cycle, when more powerful hardware made it feel fast. Windows 98 was the same. Both felt incredibly responsive.
Thanks for such an interesting game and the nostalgia.
