Ludum Dare #60compo
Fliptober: Retro Edition
🐘 FlipTober: Retro Edition
Old tech. Good memories. One increasingly bad-tempered elephant.
Welcome to FlipTober: Retro Edition, a nostalgic little memory game where you face off against Mr. Trumpet, an elephant who doesn't particularly enjoy losing!
Flip cards, find matching pairs, and collect more matches than your opponent. Sounds simple, right?
Well... Mr. Trumpet has a few tricks up his trunk.
🎮 How to Play
Flip two cards and try to find a matching pair.
Find a match and earn another turn.
Score more pairs than Mr. Trumpet to win!
Survive 5 rounds against an increasingly aggressive opponent.
🐘 Meet Mr. Trumpet
Mr. Trumpet starts out friendly enough, but as the rounds progress, his temper gets worse — and so do your odds!
He becomes increasingly aggressive and gains a greater chance of sneaking an extra peek at the cards.
Listen for his laugh. That's your clue he's been up to something!
📼 Made for Ludum Dare 60
A small, nostalgic memory game celebrating old technology, featuring hand-drawn retro-inspired graphics, a grumpy elephant, and a healthy dose of unfairness.
Made with Unity, a drawing tablet, and probably not enough sleep.
Good luck. Mr. Trumpet is watching. 🐘

Really nice game with a cozy atmosphere. I feel like sometimes the opponent could be smarter with higher difficulty. But overall I quite enjoy playing it.

Simple concept, great execution, lovely visuals and feel. Great entry!
A slight bug that sometimes the CPU would flip three cards? but I won 9-1 :D Nice work here.

@anastasia-pitomets / @thejackimonster / @designernap
Thank you so much all - I didn't actually think I would have any ratings yet. I had an issue with the WebGL build from Unity - and haven't gotten around to fixing it.... so I'm guessing you maybe downloaded... if not - can I ask which browser you used?
@anastasia-pitomets My sincerest thanks - a really valid feedback - I might do a post-jam for it. For once I actually felt I made something somewhat finished - and it simply came down to forcing the scope of the game down to someting manageable.
@thejackimonster I absolutely agree - the lack of difficulty is actually perpetual bug. There is a block of code simply not being run. I'll try and get it fixed.
@designernap Again as with both of the others - thank you so much - especially that the visuals were good enough. It's my ... well... first real attempt at visuals that was more than placeholders. I think I didn't communicate one mechanic good enough - as the rounds progress your opponent will more and more frequently "cheat" ... so on round 5 you could get the opponent to more or less actually have 3 sets of cards turned. (I hope it makes sense)

I really love this art style! Such a cool idea and a great game. Awesome work!

Funny game, like it. But you forgot to disable developer console and it has some bugs when pictures dissappering

PurpledArtFrog20 Oct 2026, 18:26
@tweekus I know with the bug - I just discovered them... it's because I just built it (the WebGL) on my laptop.. but the finishing touches was made on my desktop... so that sucks. Because that one was fixed. Might throw a new WebGL up tomorrow.
I'll upload a version without dev active... I initially thought that was why the build from sunday evening had failed (at some point I had a game where I had to enable dev console... and that apparently still lives in my brain).
Thanks for playing 😄

The classic game of memory with a cute "twist"! I like the introduction where I see the unflipped tiles once flipped. Tbh sometimes it didn't see when it was my turn and what was interactable and what was not. But overall a cute little cozy game with great visuals!

cozy :)

Eugenik21 Oct 2026, 00:54
I really appreciate how you took a classic memory game and added a genuine twist with the opponent's antics. The way that competitive spirit is layered over the simple card-flipping mechanic makes the game surprisingly entertaining. Awesome work on this jam project!

Such a lovely and cozy game, it looks really nice. Had a great time playing against Mr. Trumpet, good job!

mikeware21 Oct 2026, 06:51
Nice cozy memory game. Seems like there's a known bug, I think I could sometimes click too quickly thinking it was my turn before Trumpet was done too? I was a bit confused when I'd get to remember something vs. it remaining unknown. But the aesthetic was great for a memory game with a cute little jingle! Thanks!

Nicely done, relaxing atmosphere, nice graphics, and calming music. Very well done.

Such a nice, cozy game!

I loved this game when I was a kid. The elephant is super cute.

PurpledArtFrog21 Oct 2026, 13:59
@viktoria Thank you so much... just gave yours a spin aswell... brilliant idea... very retro 👍

I love the elephant graphics! The whole vibe is really cozy, and the cheeky cheater adds to the charm.
vorondesan21 Oct 2026, 16:17
Hi, love the graphics, simple but pretty fun and fast game.

milq21 Oct 2026, 18:27
Congratulations! I loved the hand-drawn style, with those sleeping cats and the elephants in the painting and on the TV, plus the idea of a turn-based memory game against Hr. Trumpet. Cozy and easy to play. Congrats again!

Here is a quick breakdown of my thoughts:
• Gameplay & Design: The core mechanics feel solid and intuitive right from the start. The gameplay loop is engaging, and the controls feel responsive and fair.
• Visuals & Art Style: The visual direction fits the overall mood really well. Everything looks cohesive, and the presentation makes it very clean to follow what's happening on screen.
• Audio: The sound effects and audio design add a lot of punch to the experience and help build the atmosphere.
• Theme Interpretation: You did a fantastic job incorporating the jam's theme into the core loop in a creative and clever way!
Constructive Polish Idea: If you decide to update or expand this after the jam, adding a few extra feedback cues (like juice/particles or subtle screen shake) or expanding on a few mechanics could make it feel even more polished!
Overall, awesome job for a jam project! Left you a high score/rating. Keep up the great work! 🚀
