This game was made solo in about 8 hours on Monday, I had a very full weekend and couldn't find time to do the jam during the compo time. I am fairly happy with what I was able to squeeze out in the shortened time, its missing some polish and is very short but I think all the mechanics for a prototype level are there and seem to be working. Just have to imagine the other mechincs you could unlock as the game progressed: I want a dash attack myself.
I tried to play through several times without knowing that you could use your sword to block projectiles, and I thought the joke was that the main character's sword was a bad idea. Then I got to the part where you descend the stairs and there are three robots shooting at you, and I'm not sure if I'm just really bad at the game, or it's brutally difficult 😂
Sadly, I couldn't get past those three robots, no matter how hard I tried. I did really like the art though! The robots were shockingly charming, and the little waddle that the main character does is just plain fun :) For having been finished in only eight hours, this is incredible!
Managed to beat it once i realized that you can hit the projectiles. Basicly turned into a rhytm game of dance with enemies at that point. I guess the final green door is the finish but not functional? Anyways i climbed up and jumped off the ledge at the world end.
I love the crudeness of the game, felt really human. I think your basic level design was pretty nice with how you did the progression even with the really limited mechanics of game.
That was fun. The character is a bit floaty. For some reason, I really liked the Paint artwork, hahaha. I just couldn't get onto the ledges where the top enemies were. Also, give a bit of player feedback when the player destroys the enemy projectiles.
I like that everything was handdrawn. I especially liked the look of the damage indicator. It is appropriately stressful.
The humor of a guy taking a sword to a robot gun fight is great. Very on theme and a great hook for a game.
As to negatives: it feels like maybe the character's hitbox is too wide? If I got too close to an edge, I wouldn't be able to jump anymore, as if I'm stuck inside/against it. Also enemies seemed to hurt me before they were visually touching me. That made it hard to guage how close/far I should be to hit them without getting hurt.
I'm impressed by what you made in such a short amount of time.
