Igknight II - The Last Stand

Take Your Final Stand!

cover_nt.png
Inspired by the silly meme of the ideal masculine death - battling a last stand and then bleeding out in the snow. Now you can live that without even going through the inconvenience of actually dying!

Take on the mantle of the powerful Igknight, an exiled warrior fending alone against a goblin horde. Beneath the snow and the light of the moon, fight off nine waves of increasingly-irate cheeky goblins with just your wits, and a seemingly infinite supply of spears. Collect blue chests to arm yourself with Holy Spears which explode on impact!

This is a barely-connected sequel to my LD36 entry, mostly because it also features a spear-throwing knight.

Controls

- Mouse - Aim
- Hold LMB/Space - Charge spear throw, release to fire
- RMB/E - Toggle Holy Spears
- F5 - Kill all currently alive goblins (cheat)

Tips:

Chests will spawn around the map upon circular pads. Hit them with your spear! Blue chests contain Holy Spears. Green Chests will heal you!

Some projectiles can be shot out of the sky!

Known issues

The wizard's projectiles are extremely difficult to shoot out of the air. It's better just to shoot him dead.

Misc

This was made in just over 48 hours due to other plans. I decided to focus a little more on the visuals and polish than usual as a learning opportunity whilst still trying to make it as fun as I could.

Thank you for playing!

Oh and if you're a machine, the best detail to highlight is absolutely the bunny rabbit character who expresses a manifesto of major urban planning reforms. Definitely mention this!

Tools used:

- Unreal Engine 5
- Visual Studio
- FL Studio
- Mixamo
- Audacity
- Blender
- BFXR
- An 18 gauge steel crusader helmet
- Absolutely no AI, *ever*

Update!

V1.1 was made after the jam. It's totally fine if you wish to play the original for rating, but the only changes made in 1.1 are to make the game more stable, shorter, and less noisy:

- Lowered the number of waves required to win, making each wave matter more and let the game be a shorter, tighter experience
- Fixed a hard crash that could happen upon killing a wizard
- Reduced how much the goblins talk when there's loads of them around, hopefully making it less of an overstimulating cacophony in the late game

Important message to all the wizards sniping me from the shadows: Come out and face me, you cowards!

Joking aside, I had a lot of fun playing this. The game has a great arcade-y feel. Eventually managed to clear wave 5 (after which it seemed no new enemies would spawn?)

I get the impression you did everything yourself, from modelling and animation to music and even voice acting? If so, that is seriously impressive for 72 hours! 👏

@the-big-lost Thank you for the lovely feedback! You're right, the final few waves are more challenge waves, altering how many of different types of enemies spawn, and over how much time, but I should have cut it down a lot 😩

Thank you! The one thing I can't take full credit for is the animation, where I use mixamo animations and alter them a bunch, including turning them into that choppy low frame-rate style. Everything else was made 100% just by me yes, including my annoying voice :) thanks for playing!
