The machines turned against us. Out there, computers, phones and modems have taken over the world.
You are the keeper of one of the last villages that fled technology. Here, people survive with old tools only: a windmill, a well and a bow.

Gather resources by day, keep the mill turning to light the lamps, and defend the well when the machines attack at night. If the well falls, the village falls with it.

flipping the theme so the machines took over and you keep a village that fled tech is a nice idea. the dusk village looks great and the tutorial eases you in. only played the opening

Survived the first night but looks like an overlay got stuck on the screen. Well done regardless.

@gevernus Thanks for taking the time to try it out! Like many others, I found this theme a bit challenging, but I hope my approach still feels consistent.

As for the gameplay, I made a conscious effort not to include too many features; instead, I focused on polishing the ones that are there to ensure the game remains accessible.

@paroxysmal Hmm, interesting. Given that I don’t have any red overlay like that in the game, I suspect the issue lies elsewhere. Are you testing the WebGL version? If so, my second guess would be an AMD graphics card. I enabled a G-Sync feature within the Unity engine that should have been ignored if it were the web version.

Thanks for playing

It's a nice game with compelling visuals, I really like low poly styles like that. Gameplay loop is good. I had a bug with a forge when I couldn't move after interacting with that on the third day.
Good job!

@beareye Yes, that’s a bug I noticed after uploading the project. It happens because the player moves along a NavMesh, and the height tolerance value is set to 0.45f; however, the forge is positioned 0.9f above the surface, so when the character steps onto it, they no longer detect the NavMesh.

Thanks for playing

Really interesting take on the theme! Cool low poly visuals, and I like how all the mechanics come together

Well done! Survived a couple nights, reminds me of a game I've played with my son. I always love low poly style and survival. Was there a way to chop trees without having to shoot them? I really like how you dug into Old Tech, like, this is genuine old old old tech, true to the absolute roots. Tutorial/onboarding is set up succinctly, UX is incredibly smooth and the game is intuitive right off the bat, nice work on the sfx as well.

The core game loop is obvious and quick to learn. This would segue very well for players.

I might be overlooking it, but how does one repair the well? I didn't see any stone.

A bug I found: seems that wood sometimes drops out of bounds, not pertinent to scoring and I got plenty regardless, but thought I'd raise it.

Some questions: do trees only grow in top left? I know this is for Compo, but what are your thoughts on additional resource management and potentially procedural generation for explorable area outside of the well area?

Again, fantastic submission! Thanks for letting us play!

@david-fiattarone Resource gathering is handled exclusively through the shooting. Given more time, I would have liked to implement specific, swappable tools, but that would have been too ambitious for the time allotted.

Stone can be found on the right side of the map, while wood is located on the left.

Thanks for taking the time to play!

A very interesting take on the subject, viewed through the lens of a bow, a well, and other attributes of times past! Excellent work!

Really cool Minecraft-like game! I love the art style and the colors, and the theme is super fun. The idea of being attacked by Old Tech is such a cool twist! Everything fits together really well. Great job!

Nice chill game! I enjoyed it a lot. But stone seemed to spawn pretty rarely in every run I played!

@sanechekz When making jam, it’s especially practical to work with primitive shapes—it saves time. Plus, you don’t have to pay as much attention to movement animations. thanks for playing

@sqqqwer There are just as many wood spawn points as there are stone ones;

however, you aren't the only one to point this out the village is missing signs to indicate where these resource zones are.

This is clearly a piece of gameplay information that is currently missing for the player. thanks to you

the idea of flipping the theme so the machines are the threat and the village is the one clinging to old tools is really clever. the dusk lighting and the low poly look are lovely, and the day and night loop with the mill and the well gives it a nice rhythm. how did you balance the nights, was it mostly playtesting or just tuning numbers? solid work for a solo jam.

I really enjoyed the premise of the machines turning against a community that survives using only genuinely old technology. It creates such a cool tension, especially having to maintain the windmill just to keep the village lamps lit. This is a unique and engaging take on the survival genre.

A very meditative game. At times, it wasn’t clear where the character was aiming, which was a bit frustrating—for instance, there were situations where an enemy was positioned on higher ground, and I couldn’t hit them.
