Ludum Dare #60compo
Outmoded
This is a first person meditation on the decline and dissapointments of Pax Americana. It was created for Ludum Dare 60.
Outmoded is created in a html5 engine made for this specifically, which attempts to draw 3d environments entirely using continious fourier curves like that could be drawn in a classical oscilioscope. It is probably portable to a oscilioscope but I am not clever enough to do that.
The usage of "Locksely Hall" by Tennyson in this project does not reflect a personal admiration or endorsement of the poet or his frankly reactionary leanings. Rather it attempts to illustrate the exact muddled bog that I believe all middle class downwardly mobile Americans to be stuck in.

Per the Compo rules, would you mind sharing the source code for this game and engine with us?
I'd also be curious about the choices you made with regards to the audio generation.
edit: Thanks for adding the source code. I think you should mention somewhere that you used Claude to create the game engine.
the osciloscope coming undone/needing to be recalibrated at each vignette is meant to signify the tenuousness of produced image and tech blahblahblah... if i could do it again id come up with actually designed puzzles for which to use it for
id initially wanted the music to be more dependent on the actual frequencies that would b produced by an oscilator with the wave forms of the images you see but settled for composing a bit of music that changes with each vignette and somewhat responds to detuning the oscilator
the engine is in src/engine, the whole shabang here is just a few ts scripts smashed together w/ the help of llms
Three main gimmicks were fun for the first couple of times but after that bored me except one time when I was able to walk around the train.
Also, maybe I missed something, but I didn't see a connection between the oscilloscope as a medium and the content of the game.
Apart from that, it was really a beautiful piece. Wish it was utilized better.
This is a novel with some very well executed graphical effects on top of it. I'm don't really like reading, so I haven't played it all the way until the end. But I do like the effect and I would love to know how you pulled it off 😄
If you have a minute later to check out more jam projects, we’d love if you took a look at our game Meow Bomb as well. Best of luck with the jam!
