Percussive Maintenance
Percussive Maintenance is a single player action adventure game made for the Ludum Dare 60 Game Jam. The theme for the game was "Old Tech", so we decided to create an old destroyed robot who fought other robots using older tech and weapons fashioned out of older machines such as gears, polaroid cameras, and old revolvers. A lot of our focus during this game jam was focused on trying to make satisfying pieces of simple attacking mechanics for future use and some simple assets due to the limited time.
Team Members for this Jam are listed in the credits as well as here:
Lead Programmer/Project Manager: Rylynn Hautala
Technical Artist: Kieran Hopkins
Artist Lead: Alex Demeniuk
Programmer: Vivian Van Halsema
Programmer/Environment Art: Willow Newbill
3d Artist: Linnea Smith
Concepting: Autumn Bailey
Music/Sound Effects: Remilia Pellerito
Unfortunately Autumn had to drop pretty early in the jam, hence the difference between here and the credits screen in game, the credits screen was made fairly early to prioritize having a place to show their contributions quickly.
In reflecting on the project as the lead programmer, it has let me learn just how much I should focus on and learn in regards to handling animations in unreal engine as there is a lot to learn there. If this project had a bit more knowledge on animation blueprints and blend spaces in the team, the combat could have begun to reach AAA quality in a relatively quick time frame.
Overall though I am very proud of this project, it's messy in the way you would expect a game jam game to be, but it has pieces of very high quality mechanics and art nested in.
In terms of other attributions, some sound effects, textures, and meshes were used that we didn't make. These include:

Thank you for checking out our project! (Also if you read this far, there is a fun surprise relating to the jam if you can find a key and get into the central building!)

Here is a quick breakdown of my thoughts:
• Gameplay & Design: The core mechanics feel solid and intuitive right from the start. The gameplay loop is engaging, and the controls feel responsive and fair.
• Visuals & Art Style: The visual direction fits the overall mood really well. Everything looks cohesive, and the presentation makes it very clean to follow what's happening on screen.
• Audio: The sound effects and audio design add a lot of punch to the experience and help build the atmosphere.
• Theme Interpretation: You did a fantastic job incorporating the jam's theme into the core loop in a creative and clever way!
Constructive Polish Idea: If you decide to update or expand this after the jam, adding a few extra feedback cues (like juice/particles or subtle screen shake) or expanding on a few mechanics could make it feel even more polished!
Overall, awesome job for a jam project! Left you a high score/rating. Keep up the great work! 🚀
